Is anyone watching this? I came on here thinking there would already be a thread?
Sarah's Law was born out of her death, it does seem as though that law isn't fully utilised.

Yes. I'm watching. Luke is breaking my heart.

growinglavender · 19/07/2017 22:32

What channel? I'll watch tomorrow - very sad case, I remember if well but unfortunately also remember the resulting chaos when NOTW published addresses of sex offenders.

StormFrontage · 19/07/2017 22:33

Watching her older brothers' interviews is bloody heartbreaking

Dailystuck71 · 19/07/2017 22:37

Just finished on C5. Will be on catch up. It's 1.5 hours long with interviews including Sara, Luke, Lee and Charlotte.

zukiecat · 19/07/2017 22:38

Yes, I've just watched this

The interviews with Lee are just breaking my heart,

Sara's strength and courage are amazing,

Porkpudding · 19/07/2017 22:38

Her siblings reactions particularly Luke, who believes he could have prevented it ( which of course he couldn't have) are heartbreaking.... their pain is so raw!

Smellbellina · 19/07/2017 22:39

The brothers were heartbreaking. The old film of their dad was too.
But Sara fought so hard for Sarah's Law and I honestly don't think enough people know it, use it, or understand why it is relevant to everyone
On the one hand on MN people mock that paedophiles aren't around every corner you'd be surprised and it's those closest to you that are the biggest threat. On the other hand, if someone is uneasy about someone they know that has access to their children they are grilled for that to.
Sarah's Law can and should be used more widely. You don't need to have any suspicions if someone has access to your child you can ask under Sarah's Law. It is very confidential. The only time it isn't is if the police need to share info. And even then it is only with the children's carers and strictly confidential.

Hard to watch, so sad, but glad I did. I've recently been mulling over letting my 8 year old play out with her brother on the local rec but this has put it out of my mind for the foreseeable.

Smellbellina · 19/07/2017 22:41

The point of Sarah's Law is to protect a child before they come to any harm.

OP posts:
growinglavender · 19/07/2017 22:41

The 'hurr hurr, paedophile around every corner' attitude annoys me too, as there IS one round every corner!

But, I still am not comfortable with Sarah's law as such. Apart from anything else, it wouldn't have saved sarah.

SignoraStronza · 19/07/2017 22:42

Absolutely heartbreaking. Her shoe was found a found a couple of hundred metres from where I lived and I was close to someone very involved with nailing that bastard. Seeing it now, as an ancient mother of three - was in absolute floods. That poor family.
FWIW, I know exactly where our local village paedophile lives. Is public knowledge (recall reading about it in the local paper) but am not convinced is widely known, as am pretty sure that if the local rent-a-mob cottoned on he'd have been chased from his burning home by a pitchfork wielding mob. He keeps himself firmly under the radar, although does have the temerity to write to the local paper and complain about parking issues occasionally.

QuentinSummers · 19/07/2017 22:43

I heard Sara Payne (Sarah's mum) on the radio yesterday specifically saying she didn't want parents to stop children playing out as a result of Sarah's death.

Smellbellina · 19/07/2017 22:48

Apart from anything else, it wouldn't have saved sarah
Maybe not. But as people rightly point out, the majority of offenders are known to the family. That is why it works, or would work if better known and better utilised and accepted by wider society. Same goes for Claire's Law.
I really think MN should get behind both and publicise both more widely.
Right now it seems almost shameful to make an application under either of these laws, laws made to protect people from harm. It should be an accepted norm.
I will add re Claire's Law there does need to be a cause for concern. Sarah's Law there doesn't

So heartbreaking. I hope they are all getting support still from the relevant authorities, the eldest brother obviously needs a great deal of help. Sara is amazing. That poor family Sad

growinglavender · 19/07/2017 22:50

It isn't something I could support, personally.

ChickenChica · 19/07/2017 22:51

I watched, her brother's were heartbreaking to watch, particularly the elder one Sad

ChickenChica · 19/07/2017 22:52

And here poor dad, almost tangible.

Smellbellina · 19/07/2017 22:53

It isn't something I could support, personally.
What isn't?

WineBottlesHalfFull · 19/07/2017 22:55

What's Sarah's law? & Claire's Law?

growinglavender · 19/07/2017 22:55

Sarah's Law, as you mentioned you felt MN should get behind it and publicise it.

Obviously, there is no inference there that the family were or are wrong, but as a law in itself, it isn't one I personally am supportive of.

Smellbellina · 19/07/2017 22:56

The law itself? That's already been passed you would need to campaign against it. A greater awareness of a law that is already in place for the protection of the most vulnerable? The general public being made aware of what that law means and how they can use it to keep people from harm?

OP posts:
growinglavender · 19/07/2017 22:58

I've no intention of campaigning against it. But I don't feel it is a particularly positive thing. I don't think it serves to protect children and as such I don't feel it keeps anyone from harm.

Smellbellina · 19/07/2017 22:59

Not sure I will watch it but I have read the details. That evil cunt waving and smiling as he took her off to die.

Agreed OP re the one around every corner, yes actually, there is.
