Did any one else see this?

Really amazing work being done with addicted parents ,seemed to have really positive outcomes too.

I'm about an hour behind schedule. That poor child, stuck in front of the TV while his parents took drugs - unbelievably depressing.

kkkkaty123 · 25/07/2017 22:16

I just watched this. Was the guys name mikey ? I can't remember. Anyway I'm so routing for him what a nice guy he seems and a great dad too when not on heroin obviously. I really liked his dad too. Totally spoke from the heart. If he and the dc mum get back together though he won't stand a chance.

kkkkaty123 · 25/07/2017 22:20

Afuna sadly I think must drugs are easily available everywhere. If your an addict and you want drugs you'll get it. Having said that somewhere very remote could be better. Isn't it the only family residential rehab in the country ?

AfunaMbatata · 25/07/2017 22:28

It's absurdly close though! You could go there and get drugs in literally 20mins from asking. Many pimps seem to like the area too. Idk, maybe it's the only place suitable that's affordable for them? The workers seem to be trying very hard to help those families though, well done to them!

kkkkaty123 · 25/07/2017 22:31

Yes the manager (?) she kicks butt. She's really good. But yes agree they all are.

figtreetwig · 26/07/2017 06:19

The manager is a badass! Presumably they've all been through it before so can't be accused of not understanding.

KERALA1 · 26/07/2017 08:45

Those staff are saints. I would get that poor little boy adopted by proper parents asap.

Mooey89 · 26/07/2017 09:24

Proper parents? That Dad worked so hard and did so well, the bond between them was lovely to see.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/07/2017 09:28

Kids do better kept with their parents on the whole, that's why everything is done to keep them together.

KERALA1 · 26/07/2017 10:39

As I typed my comment he had just been busted for taking drugs after nearly finishing his placement so I hadn't seen the "happy ending".

Am sceptical though. Personally think the little boy should have been taken away.

SerfTerf · 26/07/2017 10:50

What does "proper parents" mean, though?

(I'm pondering not needling.)

If a lone parent breaks their back or develops a serious cancer, should those children be removed and given to "proper parents" too?

We're seeing these parents "warts and all" at their very worst point (as the detox and start recovery). Clearly the social workers involved see more than we do and they think there's hope or they wouldn't refer to that service.

TheFirstMrsDV · 26/07/2017 11:14

That little boy wouldn't be adopted by 'proper parents'. He is male with obvious developmental delay/learning disabilities and a history of two parents with drug addiction
If the started proceedings now he might be freed for adoption in a year or two.
So he would spend his entire life in foster care.

Barring some miracle.

Elendon · 26/07/2017 11:17

It was telling that the support worker was herself an addict. She understood the detox programme.

Obviously this programme is heavily edited. However I feel that those working there would have the last say. I hope Kyle's mum get's some peace in her very disturbed life and the support too (though I hated that she was called a drama queen - you go from being a princess to a drama queen. And I do hope Mickey and Kyle have a relationship that is good and life affirming. The ending showed that you can break the mould. (Though I'm absolutely sure that father and son weren't just left high and dry).

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/07/2017 11:25

Why did you hate her being called a drama queen Elendon?

Mrs D is right, this isn't Hollywood where kids are just handed over to perfect parents.

OP posts:
Elendon · 26/07/2017 11:37

Because it's a term used for females only. She was being difficult, obstructive, non engaging and had obviously a poor upbringing.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/07/2017 11:45

Oh I see. I disagree though ,plenty of my friends including me call their sons drama queens when they're over reacting.

The real test will be when Kyle's mum gets into contact with them again . I hope there's a lot of support available.

But using it for boys is a slur on their masculinity, a sharp reminder to behave like a man (and stop being so emotional).

I've never said that to my son, nor my daughters (and pulled up my ex when he said it about my daughters).

tessiebear4 · 26/07/2017 11:55

How old was Kyle? He didn't look too badly delayed at all to me, but I was assuming he was about 2. Is he older?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/07/2017 12:00

No, it's a sharp reminder to stop being un necessarily dramatic.

How old was Kyle? He didn't look too badly delayed at all to me, but I was assuming he was about 2. Is he older?

The nursery workers were explaining that his speech was delayed ( although top marks to his dad for talking/singing to him since being on the programme) and he bangs his head on the floor, also wanted to be in the quiet baby room in the nursery.

I'd love to work in that nursery!

Elendon · 26/07/2017 12:03

Perhaps Kyle should have been told to stop being a drama queen then?

Or perhaps they gave him the benefit of the doubt and let him into the room he wanted to go to.

Elendon · 26/07/2017 12:03

Kyle, after all, has inherited genes from his mother.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/07/2017 12:05

Ok Smile

OP posts:
figtreetwig · 26/07/2017 12:52

Don't understand what Elendon is on about, as per usual.

I definitely think Kyle should've stayed with his dad, the relapse he had was painful to watch but his reaction to it was sincere. They obviously had a bond and I'm sure uprooting Kyle would be more detrimental to him, and like pp said, where would he go?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/07/2017 13:15

I agree he reaction and understanding of how it affected Kyle was key.

OP posts:
Elendon · 26/07/2017 16:26

What do you mean 'as per usual'?

Could you explain?
