What modern children's TV programmes should I watch?

I was very sad to hear about the death of Brian Cant as I have fond memories of watching play school as a child.

I don't have children and don't know anything about children's tv now because of the separate channels.

For those of you that get to watch a lot of it which one show aimed at young children and one at older would you recommend I look at, probably on catch up? Should it be tv/catch-up or are there original showd just online now?

Class dismissed, strange hill high and horrible histories are the favourites in this house.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 19/06/2017 22:35

Can't help with younger children but my 10 year old likes The Amazing world of Gumball and I actually like watching it with him so I recommend giving it a go.

Should say aimed at 5+ and not really play school, but funny.

GherkinSnatch · 19/06/2017 22:38

My DC are 4 and 2, and from my experiences so far I'd recommend Hey Duggee, Do You Know? and the Go Jetters. Swashbuckle is good too, if you want something more presenter/game based. All on CBeebies.

Horrible Histories on CBBC is really good too, I don't get to watch it though because mine are still too small.

ExplodedCloud · 19/06/2017 22:39

Something Special, Octonauts and Hey Duggee for little children.
Horrible Histories is peerless for 8+
Strange Hill High is a favourite as is The Dumping Ground.

Lapinlapin · 19/06/2017 22:40

Ben and Holly (aimed at younger children) is very funny.

Octonauts are shite. Ben and Holly unwatchable. Peppa Pig - just makes me want honey roast ham with a bacon sandwich chaser.

Gumball.

Stay away from Paw Patrol Grin

PocketNiffler · 19/06/2017 22:45

Octonauts, Horrible Histories, Strange Hill High, Gravity Falls.

HappyHippyChick · 19/06/2017 22:49

I love Ben and Holly!

ExplodedCloud · 19/06/2017 22:52

Octonauts is educational I tell you! Smile

BelafonteRavenclaw · 19/06/2017 22:54

We are big Hey Duggee fans in this house (5.5 & 22 months DS')

BillywigSting · 19/06/2017 22:54

Hey! duggee

Masha and the bear

Do you know? (have actually learned the odd thing from that, like how plastic is treated and recycled)

Abney and Teal (just because the animation is pretty)

Rastamouse

KnitFastDieWarm · 19/06/2017 22:54

Show me show me on CBeebies is lovely - very old fashioned, just two presenters doing pretend play with lots of rhymes and songs. My 18 month old adores it. It reminds me a lot of children's tv when I was little.
Hey duggee is just brilliant and full of in-jokes, love it Grin

BillywigSting · 19/06/2017 22:54

Also adventure time

KnitFastDieWarm · 19/06/2017 22:55

Oh how could I forget do you know! My ds is a bit young for it but I love it (and now know how crayons and bicycles are made,
Among other things Blush)

KnitFastDieWarm · 19/06/2017 22:55

Sarah and duck is trippy and delightful when you're nursing a light hangover and need to entertain a toddler Confused

ShatnersBassoon · 19/06/2017 23:09

Amazing World of Gumball, and Adventure Time are my favourites.

leccybill · 19/06/2017 23:09

Operation Ouch is brill, I've learnt so much from it! It's on CBBC.

phoolani · 19/06/2017 23:13

gumball is brilliant.

elQuintoConyo · 19/06/2017 23:13

Adventure Time is for older kids, isn't it? And Regular Show- which my 5yo loves.

I forgot Masha and the Bear, it's hilarious and very swwet.

Smeaton no one pissed in my sugar puffs thanks, but B&H is truly shit, can't stand any of them and Nanny Plum gets on my tits. Obvs not popular point of view on MN, how dare I diss the Plum and all that Hmm

ExplodedCloud · 19/06/2017 23:13

Yy dd is very keen on Operation Ouch. She's absorbed an awful lot from that.

MoonriseKingdom · 20/06/2017 19:17

Another vote for Sarah and Duck - surreal but gentle and fun with the voice of Roger Allam. We have recently been to the stage version which was delightful.
