Did anyone see this?
I found it very frightening! The music , the people and their sights / voices

Why are this people in the community , like surely if they can imagine a large scary crab they could imagine someone trying to harm them etc and attack them?

Surprised how scared I felt after .

I though if they were on medicine they weren't supposed to have these hallucinations? It never explained why they still had them?

I've not seen this programme so can't comment fully, however, lots of people with various forms of psychosis continue to experience some degree of symptoms even on medication. There are lots of different medications but no magic pills for mental health that just 'cure' you. For some people they don't particularly want to stop hearing voices, it's part of who they are (have a look at the hearing voices network - easy to google).

As for being scared, people with mental health issues are at much higher risk of being the victims of violence than they are of being violent. You are much more likely to be attacked by someone for reasons other than psychosis.

I didnt see the programme but people experiencing psychosis are hugely more likely to harm themselves than other people or be so petrified they neglect themselves.

very very sad - they'd all suffered appalling abuse, so their brains had gone into protective overdrive - they were trying to manage that

GavelRavel · 06/05/2017 12:29

I felt very sorry for them, victims of terrible abuse. Makes you wonder whether much more mental illness is a symptom of damaging abuse when young.

Why are "these people" in the community? Because it's disgusting to lock people up just because you don't like the idea of them being around?

I'm sorry you felt scared afterwards. I would hope that most people would feel empathy instead.

I saw the programme. I thought it was incredible, I thought the people were incredible. It made such sense that the voices that people were hearing were actually parts of themselves trying to tell them something. All of these people had suffered abuse in early life, which is really telling. The people hearing voices were all very lucid about it, they understood what was happening to them and had strategies. Even the man with visual hallucinations, who was probably not in such a good place unfortunately, was perfectly aware that his visions were not real. I felt sad for him that there wasn't such a good way to deal with the visual hallucinations, the voices can be dialogued with. I did some more research afterwards around inner speech & childhood - fascinating.
