Sophable, she was there via the power of literature!
Seriously, I just read her books, but they really made me DARE to have a homebirth with dd, and honestly, I was counting down the days to being in labour, because I WANTED that experience. And, yes it was painful, but FANTASTIC at the same time, and I do put it down to her book - she's not one of these 'imagine a flower opening up, and embrace the contractions' types, but really positive. Ds2's birth was harder, but again, things she'd written came flooding into my mind.
Breastfeeding too, I found a book she'd written, when I was having problems with ds1, and opened the book on a page which described him exactly - explained a lot to me, why, when everyone was telling me that a baby that sleeps contentedly is getting enough milk, my baby who hardly woke up was losing weight by the pound.
Sheila, if you read MN, thank you so much!
