Has anyone seen this on Netflix?
I think it's really good.
The casting is great apart from Cuba Gooding who doesn't fit playing OJ
John Travolta is brilliant as a smarmy lawyer.
I'm wondering how true to life this is as it seems to portray OJ as quite humble and sorry for causing trouble when he is in the car trying to flee. I couldn't quite picture OJ being that polite and apologetic especially as he lost his temper and beat Nicole several times in a temper.

Am watching Made in America, just got to the verdict and the reactions just makes me so angry and sad. I can't see how there would ever be any doubt as to his guilt, it's accepted by everyone now but he got away with it. Awful.

Made in America was a tremendous series. For the first time it made it explicable how such a miscarriage in such an open-and-shut case happened - such a confluence of circumstances. America's race relations are still so poor and you can see why.

I loved the drama series - if you read the book on which it was based it of course fleshes it out and is, interestingly, more critical of the prosecution team

Real-life Marcia Clark kicks ass!

One thing I noticed though: the real OJ was way more charismatic, articulate and handsome than Cuba Gooding Jr. The documentary made it more clear what an icon he was and why. At the time I didn't follow the case closleey and didn't really know who he was.

It's brilliant! I watched all episodes (more than once)!

Especially riveting are John Travolta and Courtney B. Vance!

I quite fancy watching this. Which one should i watch first?
The People v. OJ. or Made in America ?

NotYoda · 11/03/2017 16:23

Hmm

I'd say The People, then Made in America.

I think if you watch it the other way round you might be disappointed in the drama one.

Was about to ask the same MrsHughes, have the TV to myself tonight so can have a marathon.

One thing I remember from the case was the sneering look on OJ's face during the trial. He was SO arrogant and Cuba Gooding just couldn't capture that, which I felt was a big let down as far as the drama was concerned. The documentary is brilliant.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 12/03/2017 08:07

Cuba Gooding did get the whiny self pitying aspect of OJ pretty well.

I watch The Real Housewives of Beverley Hills (I know). Faye Resnick - friend of Nicole, wrote book alleging OJ'S affairs, is in it. Awful woman. Massively self-publicising on the back of the OJ trial (posed for Playboy, her book basically trashed Nicole)

Another woman is on it who was the wife of the other (younger) football player Nicole had an affair with. It's weird seeing these people in real life. Beverley Hills was and is a bizarre place

Also sobering to think the Kardashians are only really famous because their family friend repeatedly beat and then brutally murdered his wife and her friend.

I also recommend drama first then documentary

I've just finished watching this on Netflix.
Totally agree with all the comments about John Travolta, he is almost unrecognisable. And David will always be Ross for me, I think the casting was pretty brilliant though when you look at the faces of most the real life people who took part.
Two things really got to me more than anything.
Although I read about it happening a lot back then, the racism from the police force (and I truly hoped it was just that Fuhrman character, but I'm not that naive) back then was truly disgusting.
And it's so upsetting that (if they portrayed it accurately) the judgement was such an emotionally charged one.
The two victims never got justice, makes me feel sick to think about what she went through time after time with that man and then like she said on the programme, he just snuffed her out 😢. It's just not right that he got away with it.

I'm just re-reading Dominick Dunne's reports of the trial for Vanity Fair. I've not read them since the original publication.

How good does Marcia look now in "OJ Made In America"? She looks better now than she did 20 years ago.

Yes, so much better. You can see the surgery though.

OreoDream · 19/03/2017 02:39

I'm shocked he is up for parole, he got 33yrs for the robbery & 'kidnapping'.

I'm still shocked by that verdict. He deserved to be in for 33yrs, but they tried so hard to make the charges as extreme as they could.

Supposedly the judge gave 33yrs to represent the $33m compensation he was supposed to pay from being found guilty at the civil murder trial. And wasn't it announced on the anniversary date of the civil trial verdict? I'm surprised the judge got away with it.
