my 4 year old son has moved in his viewing choices from paw patrol to Ben&Holly to Thomas & Friends and is now addicted to My Little Pony

is this a passing fad?

She's picked up one particular phrase from the show, said in a quasi Atlantic accent too..... "are you crazy?"

Ah thank you! I now know where DD age 4 got that phrase from. She's another MLP fan but I can't bear it so she watches with the door shut.

Does anyone have a solution to the hair on the sodding plastic ponies going all frizzy and tangled? Brushing doesn't return it to its original sleek form, and it drives me nuts (DD isn't bothered!)

MarjorySunshineDust · 30/01/2017 14:40

The hair is a nightmare, I think fabric softener is supposed to help but haven't tried it. I hate the feel of it, especially when dd is waving it around my face!

I think mlp is one of the better shows, strong female characters etc.

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 30/01/2017 15:04

I don't mind MLP too much. Have you seen the episodes where they take on communism yet?! That was strange.

2 year old DS likes it almost as much as his older sister.

PotatoWaffleCob · 30/01/2017 15:07

DD is newly into MLP and I am really enjoying it Blush I hope it isn't a phase.

PersisFord · 30/01/2017 18:50

allmybestfriends the one where they all lose their cutie marks?? That's about the only one that the twins will tolerate for some reason!! I like the one where the cutie mark crusaders do the talent contest. Or the one where they meet the zebra and pinky sings "she's an evil ENCHANTRESS, she'll put you in TRANCES!!". I croon that to myself as I wander around the supermarket.

The other day dd (2) demanded that pokemon be switched to mlp cue much protesting from ds1 (9) and ds2(4) went off to make a cuppa and came back to them all transfixed by rainbow dash and co including dp (33) I have been sworn to secrecy though by ds1 so keep it under your hats please ladies.
Anyone else been introduced to "standing up ponies" otherwise known as equestria girls? I was initially very scornful but I quite like it now (makes note - it's time to return to the adult workforce!)

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 31/01/2017 08:36

My dd4 really likes mlp, my dd2 is OK with it, loves the toys though. I however...love it!!! I definitely Like it more than the kids and will happily buy waste all our money the kids the merchandise as I like it myself haha! My fave is pinkie pie, shes awesome. I realise I need a life....but don't even care

noblegiraffe · 31/01/2017 10:29

Oh that double episode about communism is really weird for a kids' show. At the start I was thinking 'ooh that's a bit political' but when the ponies get captured and blasted with propaganda about how everyone is equal and no one is special I was like 'no, this isn't even subtle, this is definitely about communism'.

I made my DH watch it with me when he got home to confirm the weirdness. Grin It's like My Little Pony meets Animal Farm.

DearMrDilkington · 31/01/2017 10:35

I love mlp. Dd regularly pretends to be nightmare moon, we like the episodes with nightmare moonGrin.

noblegiraffe · 31/01/2017 11:07

Talking about Nightmare Moon, that fight between Celestial and Luna seems to have happened hundreds (thousands?) of year ago - so how old are they and why do they seem to be immortal? Does that mean Twilight Sparkle as an alicorn is also now immortal and is destined to live on while her friends die around her? (We know normal ponies die because Applejack's parents are dead).

Also, how come the other alicorns have cool hair?

DearMrDilkington · 31/01/2017 11:24

I've always wondered the same thing noble, twilights hair has always bothered me since she turn into an alicorn. Why doesn't she deserve a cool hair-do?! Is it only royal blooded alicorns that get it?Confused

DJKKSlider · 31/01/2017 11:32

Celestia is 10,000 years old. I believe Lauren Faust confirmed thast but I might be wrong.
Twilight is only a young pony right now, most put nher age at 20-25. She has much more to learn before she can take her true place alongside Celestia, Luna and Cadence.
As for the hair... Noone knows why it does it.
In an episode from season 6 Cranky Doodle Donkey asks princess Celestia how her hair dies it and she simply sighs and role her eyes.

I love MLP.
I love the adult stuff in it that you can spot.
Like the Big Lebowski Ponies
The transgendered pony (not big Mac)
Also: Derpy Hooves, she's awesome.

Ha, Starlight Glimmer's communist village is on now Grin

Mol1628 · 01/02/2017 16:42

My 4yo son loves it too. All tv shows are phases really aren't they.

leccybill · 01/02/2017 16:47

DD almost 7 and still massively into MLP.
I may or may not obsessively search for Applejack things in shops as it's her favourite but Rainbow Dash and Pinkie Pie seem to get all the credit.

lightcola · 01/02/2017 16:48

We're watching it right now.

TheLivingAsheth · 01/02/2017 16:50

My sons were very into MLP last year, they were five and seven. They don't want the toys but they loved the series.

CherrySkull · 01/02/2017 21:01
