Watching it now,oh goodness what a great documentary.

I saw it. It was really good. Amazing that even nowadays, some of the family were still horrified at the illegitimate birth. The cousins were lovely. And looked like they had a fabulous time in New York.

The cousins were so lovely and accepting weren't they? And half sister Siobhan was just a delight!

I'm only part way through at the moment, but wanted to say how lovely the cousins are. I'll avoid a spoiler, but I've just watched a bit where they're getting their photo taken and he's put a suit on for it. Just lovely.

I know I got a bit teary about her new New York hat too

I loved the cousins going to New York. He'd never been on a train! That was as interesting to me as the search. I kept thinking it was as big a deal as when the father went there all those years ago - the culture shock. There was such an innocence and bravery about the couple for going, what a life changing experience for them. I love this board for pointing out these gems, otherwise it would have passed me by - thank you DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen

Stick with it - it starts slowly

It's gentle all the way through actually, but it's one of those programmes you find yourself thinking about a lot the next day

Ime most Storyville's start slowly and able along with a few wow moments along the way. LOVE them!

I watched it last night. I couldn't believe how simply the cousins lived in this day and age and found them a little comical (in an unkind way) at first. Then when they went to New York - which I thought they'd never do - my attitude to them changed enormously. I thought they were wonderful people and the whole programme was very engaging. But what a sad story.

They're not unique by any means in the way they live in Ireland according to my Irish in-laws.

I've also just watched the 8 episodes they did on the death on the staircase (not sure if that was the exact title - it was the Michael Peterson case). After episode 1 I really thought - how on earth can there be another 7 episodes? Nothing to it really. But I kept going, and there was just something about it. And the real hooks definitely come later. Amazing music too, to the point that I looked for the credits but think it was something written especially for them.

I haven't seen that yet but it's on my list on YouTube !

I just watched it. It was hugely resonant for me as my younger sister (we are all 45++) is addoted from exactly the same scenario. I feel like I have looked at some of the same issues from a slightly different angle.

I would deffo want to have a night out with Siobhan - I'd love to think she was on here. Whether you are or not Siobhan, I salute you and your ability to see how the present is different from the past.

Siobhan was lovely,she could see it from everyone's point of view.

Daisy Asquith did a really good Storyville years ago called Kimberly - young mum 10 years on! I was reminded of it thanks to this thread and looked for it but can't find it - did anyone else watch it?
