It was full of underlying stuff, haven't read the book but was touched by the poignancy(sp) of it. Adopted myself and felt her pain.

schneebly · 19/02/2007 23:16

damn - missed it! I have read the book and wanted to see how it compared! |Anyone know if it is repeated?

DelGirl · 19/02/2007 23:17

god, I didn't notice it was you posted before me lol

hehmm, can I change the subjkect. What would you buy for a certain boy's 50th? Thinking of maybe something for the Italian hideaway?

Molesworth · 19/02/2007 23:40

lol @ jeremy kyle watching! I have been known to but the man makes my flesh crawl too much ... come back trisha with your patronising ways!

I haven't a CLUE what to get a certain birthday boy, and it's such a special birthday too, I'd like to think of something really good this year

I saw a fantastic book of old maps of London published by the British Museum that I thought he might like (or has he gone off that sort of thing?) but that's not very special is it?

I've only just re-read this book to refresh my memory because it was chosen for a book club I'm in. I was looking forward to seeing the dramatisation but am very disappointed. Sorry but it was just dreadful.

NadineBaggott · 20/02/2007 00:20

not for me, although I love Anne Reid.

NadineBaggott · 20/02/2007 00:21

i really liekd the book and thought the daniel/charlie relationship was really really lovely... but in the prog it was a bit strange how all of a sudden they were 'together' in the book it's really slow how they developed their realtionship etc...

note to Harry Potter film fans... did you notice that daniel was cedric diggory!!!!???

(sorry if i don;t make sense feeling alittle disjointed this morning could it be to do with leaveing dd on the sitting room floor mid way trhough a nappy change to check my email and have a very very quick surf!!!? talk about bad mothers!!!! )

Ulysees · 20/02/2007 17:13

In fact think the dd and gran were only good casting.

how did the storyline finish...I fell asleep when the daughter came back from the hospital after her scan with the gran and boyfriend.

NuttyMuffins · 20/02/2007 18:18

The mum found her real mum, and discovered she had been in prison for the neglect and death of her other dd.

She then realises she has treated her own dd badley and rings her only to discover she is in hospital having the baby. She gets there just in time and the daughter has a baby boy. The nan goes to visit them in hospital and has a stroke.

Eventually they all go home again and live happily ever after.

I thought it was a bit dull and boring and predictable.

snowisgone · 20/02/2007 19:27

I thought it was good nan was endearing and well thought of my own mum whose elderly and cried at the end. Thought it was going to be light hearted. I thought CT was convincing and enjoyd it. It's well i am no critic

Different ending in the book. The gran had to go into a nursing home and the daughter and granddaughter visited a few until they found a good one. They were clearing out her room so that they could put the baby in there when Daniel found some papers in a bag. He realised they were premium bonds but didn't tell anyone until he'd checked them out. At Christmas he surprised them all by telling them they'd won £10,000 (Gran had bought bonds for daughter when she was a baby and was too senile by the time they won to realise). Daughter and granddaughter were thrilled and decided that the money would help put them both through university. So everyone was happy.

A much more interesting, if convenient ending.
