Terrestrial only

Bored can't sleep fancy a change from Netflix/prime. Plus want to see if there is any new programmes I might like (I'm not very organised and tend to miss new shows starting).

I like-

Crime/legal and some historical dramas
Quizzes
Some documentaries (history and crime again)
Some chat shows

Sorry I know I'm hard to please.

Did you watch The Missing? That was AMAZING.

Graphista · 02/12/2016 23:19

Wasn't that full of subtitles and twists? If so I'd struggle to follow it.

Very few subtitles. And no so much twists as: you don't know which 'lead' is relevant or not. The best thing I've seen this year!

A good, gentle doc was recently on Christie's -2 parts. Not really history, though.

The Danny Dyer Who Do You Think You Are - did you see that?

Graphista · 03/12/2016 00:03

Yea I like who do you think you are.

I've seen trailers and people commenting on Fb about the missing, sorry not appealing to me.

Did you watch Rillington Place the other night on BBC1? It's a new drama about the Christie murders with Tim Roth and Samantha Morton. It was fab!

Graphista · 03/12/2016 01:53

I think I will try rillington place I love Tim Roth but I would welcome more suggestions.

There was a two part drama about Mary Ann Cotton (Victorian serial killer) on ITV a couple of weeks ago. A bit silly but interesting all the same.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 03/12/2016 01:56

Or National Treasure about a comedian accused of rape/child abuse. Robbie Coltrane and Julie Walters. Not sure that will be still on though.

Graphista · 03/12/2016 01:58

Couldn't watch national treasure too upsetting. The Mary Ann cotton thing sorry I started that and thought it was dreadful.

There have been a couple of good Storyvilles recently. One beautiful one about the life of James Foley, made by his friend.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 03/12/2016 01:59

Oh yes but I found that entertaining in itself Wink

National treasure was a bit grim alright.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 03/12/2016 02:01

Struggling to think of anything good tbh. I only use terrestrial for the soaps mainly! (Which are rubbish)

Manumission · 03/12/2016 02:02

Also the BBC1 drama starring Hattie whatsername set in rural WW2 Northern Ireland. I can't remember the title. Extremely good; Understated, well written and acted.

Manumission · 03/12/2016 02:04

Hattie Morahan, My Mother and Other Strangers.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 03/12/2016 02:04

Oh I like the sound of that Manu

Humans?

I LOVER The Missing but I found Rillington Place unwatchable. The latter is based on a true story which is pretty harrowing in parts and while Samantha Morton and Tim Roth are very good actors the pace was interminably slow.

The Poliakoff drama is ok, but also a bit too slow. Poliakoff usually is quite small stories told beautifully by stretching out all the details but this one feels like the story wants to be a bit pacier and it's being reined in a bit.

Manumission · 03/12/2016 02:09

Yes, it was pitch perfect, I thought. It nearly slipped by me.

Did you see The Durrells earlier in the year in ITV? That wasn't at all bad either.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 03/12/2016 02:11

We have just started watching Deep Water on iplayer. It's Australian and pretty good so far.

It's a police drama with a female protagonist and themes of religion and hate crimes.
