Really, there's only one episode I can watch tonight, so I'm going to skip forward a few episodes to the appropriate one.

Snowstorm · 14/11/2016 22:32

On our 4th or 5th run of TWW (albeit it in 15'ish years) haven't found another TV series that touches it. Am loving the WWWeekly podcasts too. We've used the 'What would Leo do?' motto a lot! If real life is getting too testing then I put it on and find my shoulders relaxing seconds into the theme music - just love it Grin

Fiderer · 15/11/2016 18:35

My C+P-ing from the other thread. Could do with a rest from the election.

I love the scene where Margaret is cross that she couldn't go on the California trip and Leo's signing documents. She snaps at him "Sign here, you're not the King of Belgium."

And when he's waiting for Bartlet about the (bound to fail again) missile shield and Mrs Landingham makes a comment. He retorts "Go sharpen a pencil will you?" and she shoots back with, "Sarcasm, the grumpy man's wit."

I just remembered something from earlier this year: we were at a parents evening for DD's nursery and part of it involved a presentation from a man who was helping launch the new website that the nursery were signed up to for parental updates.

He was American and was talking about his time as a Montessori teacher and then just happened to mention that before he retrained as a teacher he had been a speechwriter at the White House Grin I was genuinely much more interested in what he had to say after that! Sadly he was neither Sam nor Toby Sad

fruitbats · 15/11/2016 20:14

Just popping in to say that for the last few weeks, me and DH have binged watched the 7 series for the first time. Loved them and are now bereft. We don't know what to do of an evening and weekend.pathetic

MetalLaLa · 15/11/2016 20:17

I've been rewatching it on Box Sets and as we speak are currently watching the part two episode of Election Night in season 7. My DH is a diehard Alan Alda fan so he's getting into watching it Smile

Dozer · 15/11/2016 20:42

Alan Alda was fabulous: if only there could be a Republican candidate like him in RL!

John Goodman was great too - menacing!

IEatCannibals · 15/11/2016 20:59

fruitsbats. Watch designated survivor next.

"Technically I outrank you"

"So far up your ass"

This is my episode today....The Poet Laureate. I quite like this one.

SapphireStrange · 16/11/2016 16:25

I like the one where CJ visits her dad too. It genuinely evokes the feeling of visiting your home town.

Josh, oddly, earlier today, with no prompting and long before I came on this thread, I was thinking about that very scene and giggling. It's matchless. Grin Grin Grin

Totally different mood, but I also love the one where Toby takes his STB ex-wife to see the house that he wants to buy in the hope that they'll get back together. He's so vulnerable and so crushed. I heart him.

fruitbats · 16/11/2016 17:56

Thank you Cannibals and Admiral

burblish · 16/11/2016 20:40

AIBU for adoring the appearances of Lord John Marburg? Roger Rees played him just gloriously.

burblish · 16/11/2016 20:41

Marburg?! Bloody hell. MarburY! Stupid fingers.

CongresswomanCaveMum · 16/11/2016 20:51

I've been wondering why so many people say they don't like the episode "Access". I quite like it as an episode, but have come to the conclusion that the reason it comes in for so much stick is because it follows one of the best episodes of the whole dang show - The Supremes Grin

CongresswomanCaveMum · 16/11/2016 20:59

I love her. I love her mind. I love her shoes Grin

Fiderer · 17/11/2016 07:36

The poet in The Poet Laureate annoyed me by being so drippy. Toby was v enjoyable, as ever.

I fast forward the scene with him and Andy and the house he bought.

CaveMum, I love CJ and want to be her when I grow up I'm nearly 42

What happens in 'The Supremes', please? I don't really remember the episode titles.

CongresswomanCaveMum · 17/11/2016 15:11

The Supremes is the one Glenn Close guest starred in as a candidate for a job on the Supreme Court.

I don't want to give away too much in case any newbies haven't seen the episode but suffice to say Josh and Toby put Donna's parents cats on the Supreme Court Wink

SapphireStrange · 17/11/2016 15:55

Hmm, still don't remember it. I'll have to revisit my box set.

Trifleorbust · 17/11/2016 15:55

Watching season 7 now! Love it.

CongresswomanCaveMum · 17/11/2016 18:00

Season 5, disc 5 Sapphire Grin

Thurlow · 17/11/2016 18:07

That final episode of season 2, with the speech in the cathedral and then that amazing five minutes with Brothers in Arms and Bartlet going to the press conference Shock

I liked TWW a lot, though I didn't love it as much as a lot of other shows - but that episode is honestly one of the greatest episodes of modern TV I've seen.

plus I'd jump Josh in a heartbeat

poshme · 17/11/2016 18:17

I have broken my leg, so basically stuck on the sofa at home. I have been watching WW again, and in the last 3 weeks have been binge watching every day! Got to series 6, which is where it picks up again.

I didn't mind access, but hated CJ going home.

I miss Sam, and will is annoying, but I quite like Kate.
Lord john Mayberry always annoys me.

CongresswomanCaveMum · 17/11/2016 20:00

Did anyone else watch Rich Hall's documentary on American Presidents last week (on BBC4, it was very good).

They talked about what can ruin an election campaign and brought up Bush Senior's opponent Mike Dukakis. Apparently it's widely considered that he lost the election during a debate when he was asked if he would want the death penalty applied if his wife was raped and murdered (he was publicly anti death penalty whereas Bush was very pro). He gave a very wishy-washy answer and it was game over.

That must have been where TWW writers got their inspiration for the scene during debate prep for the second election where Bartlett is asked if he would want a man who raped and murdered Zoe to be put to death and he deliberately fluffs the answer to wind Toby up!
