Notting Hill's on C4 - was it really this bad when it came out?

I've got it on in the background and it's almost unwatchable.
I don't remember it being this cheesy when i watched it the first time!

no, he hasn't had any other hairstyle or played any other character but he does that character well. anyway julia roberts is fab

Yes I always groan "oh no not Hugh Grant playing Hugh Grant again" but then I find myself thoroughly enjoying whatever film it is. Some of them I've watched more than once and still enjoyed them. I s'pose if it aint broke don't fix it, hence all those Rocky films!

I know what you mean. I loved Love Actually when it was out but I was watching it on TV recently and I was cringing at it! I don't actually think any of those films will go down as classics. Richard Curtis should stick to Blackadder. Now that is a classic.

I love Notting Hill! Hated Love Actually though.

I've also watched it many times. I only really like the dinner scene and Rhys Ifans.
Also just the same cheesy ending as Four Weddings and Love Actually.

Hugh Grant was better in Bridget Jones where he was the love-rat.

I love these Richard Curtis films.

I cant really say that I class them as 'classics' or view them in the same way that I do- say 'shawshank redemption' etc.

But they are 'feel good' films, and I love the kind of 'Hip' London vibe in each film- they always make London look like such a cool place to live.

Love Actually is my fave, agree Hugh Grant is type cast- but I would find it odd to watch him being anything other than a bumbling toff in a film.

I find myself welling up throughout these films.

Last night I blarted everytime Max? ( Tim McInnerny) scooped his wheelchair bound wife up, more so when he refused to drive the car unless she was in it. Went to pieces. Dp thought I had gone mad.

Then I turned over and spent the last hour of Billy elliot blarting.

Nothing like a good British film.

Dd (16) noticed how they spent half the time staring at each other. Good acting skills!

It looks really dated though.
