Having experience of a close family member with Alzheimer's, I think Meatloaf may have the same. I hope not.

OP posts:
Shannaratiger · 10/09/2016 10:46

I saw him on Loose Women yesterday and he said he has a trapped nerve in his neck that's causing all the problems.
Never realised a trapped nerve could cause such severe problems!

Premak · 10/09/2016 10:47

Meat has a trapped nerve and cannot stand for more than five minutes at the moment. He has as woolen tongue and that is the reason for his slurred speech at present. No dementia and no stroke.
Really looking forward to the new album as by all accounts it's a belter.
The guy is approaching his 69 th birthday. He's just getting older...
Go Meat !!

Imnotaslimjim · 10/09/2016 10:47

He was on loose women saying it was just a pinched nerve but it certainly looks more than that. Such a shame.

Premak · 10/09/2016 10:48

Swollen tongue... Not woolen !!

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 10/09/2016 10:50

he was a bit odd on Breakfast TV earlier in the week and seems to be a goo deal worse today...I suppose if he is on a publicity whirl then he must be exhausted and that cannot be helping.

Poor guy looks so frail.

Fiderer · 10/09/2016 10:51

Premak wondered where the sheepy yarn came in Grin

Notthiswankagain · 10/09/2016 10:53

I heard him on radio two and wondered if he'd had a stroke by how he was talking. Very sad.

rosesandcashmere · 10/09/2016 10:54

I am watching sat kitchen and just wondered if he was ok, thank you for confirming premak!

LIZS · 10/09/2016 10:54

Hard to watch Sad

Tollygunge · 10/09/2016 10:56

My dh interviewed him a few years ago. Says he is the most obnoxious awful celeb he's ever interviewed

Tollygunge · 10/09/2016 10:57

Oops didn't read whole thread, hope he's not ill of course

AuldYow · 10/09/2016 11:04

I had to turn over as it felt invasive watching him. Poor bloke definitely has some sort of illness Parkinson's, stroke or something it was hard to watch.

I'm in two minds if he's happy to be on tv, all well and good but on the other hand if it's just part of the publicity machine maybe he should step off. It's reminding me of my Grandad when he had Parkinson's he was a shadow of his former self and as a youngster it deeply affected me SadThink seeing Meatloaf is bringing up old emotions I'd buried long ago.

Giratina · 10/09/2016 11:08

I hope it is just a trapped nerve, not something more serious. Has anyone heard the new album yet? I loved his older stuff but I wasn't that keen on Hang Cool Teddy Bear, hope the new album is more like his classic stuff, I might look for it in the supermarket later.

DamsonInDistress · 10/09/2016 11:12

He is a very ill man. I too saw him in concert almost eactly 20 years ago and his voice was just beginning to go then. He still had amazing stage presence and a good deal of energy though, but the actual sound was starting to go. The fifteen minute performance of Paradise by the Dashboard Light was wonderous!

There must have been so many years of drug and alcohol abuse that will be contributing to making his other issues worse. Whether or not he has Parkinsons as well, his heart condition is clearly affecting him badly, and has done for the decade.

Jasonandyawegunorts · 10/09/2016 11:13

I've heard the radio edit of his new single.... Going All the Way Is Just the Start.

He's stuggling to get his words out / to sing, sadly it's not good. As bad as he has been live, he's always managed to do his "meatloaf" singing in the studio, but he can't do it.

CarpeJugulum · 10/09/2016 11:16

I saw him about 20 years ago too. The tour where he only played one show and then cancelled all his uk dates. He was brilliant, but still not quite as good as he'd been before (viewing old footage). Mind you, he was sickening for something so...
Hope he's okay, as I love his stuff; don't think there is a song on BooH I don't love and can't sing word perfectly!

DamsonInDistress · 10/09/2016 11:17

A trapped nerve is an excuse I suspect. He's been much more ill than that in recent years!

Dickorydockwhatthe · 10/09/2016 11:23

He said on loose women the other day that he was suffering from a pinched nerve or something, which meant he couldn't stand for more then 5 mins and that he felt like someone was constantly stabbing him in the back. He also said he wasn't on medication because it would mean he would be able to speak at all. He did mention his tongue had swelled in hence the slow speaking.

insancerre · 10/09/2016 11:26

Didn't he collapse on stage and nearly die not that long ago?

He looks very ill and I'm surprised he is doing so much promo work

Jasonandyawegunorts · 10/09/2016 11:29

Hairy bikers knew he wouldn't be able to cut his stake.
Sad

TheSpottedZebra · 10/09/2016 11:29

The hairy bikers cut the steak up for him, and made it seem totally normal. I do like the HBs - they seem very very kind.

But yes, Meatloaf does not seem well, and seems to have issues with his left hand as well as the speech.

LeaveMyWingsBehindMe · 10/09/2016 11:30

I saw that and he struck me as not at all well too. I can't remember what he was there to promote but given that he fairly recently collapsed on stage I do hope it was not a tour of live gigs. Shock

I know musicians often like to work for as long as people have an appetite for hearing it, but I think he must have enough money in the bank now and should focus on resting up and getting well and enjoying his later years. It's a pathetic sight to see someone way past their prime doing a poor impression of their former selves Macca I'm looking at you too.

On the other hand the wonderful Glen Campbell and the wonderful Johnny Cash both made some truly beautiful music in their old age where it was apparent they were frail and not entirely well but that just made the music more poignant. Glen Campbell has Alzeimers and is 80 now but made a highly acclaimed album only two years ago.

TheSpottedZebra · 10/09/2016 11:31

Si HB is maybe doubly empathetic as he had a brain issue (aneurysm?) not that long ago, didn't he?

Littlepanda2012 · 10/09/2016 11:32

From what I've read he has Wolff-Parkinson White syndrome - something to do with his heart

TheSpottedZebra · 10/09/2016 11:33

Is it pathetic, Leave ? As people with illnesses, injuries or general age shouldn't have to be hidden away? Surely he's equally as valid now as he was in his 'prime', and if people get pleasure from listening to him or watching him, and he enjoys performing, then it's all good?
