Apparently this started last Friday on Amazon. I didn't see any advertising for it and only found out because I googled to see when the next series started Sad

Has anyone seen the first episode? I really want to know if it is worth restarting my Prime membership or if I should just wait until it airs on tv?

"I can't remember the Jebediah Shine case very well at all,"

I think it was the end of series 2.

He was a corrupt copper but I don't think that they managed to get anything against him?

Maybe they were hoping for a series 3 at the time but then it was taken over & different direction taken?

Edmund Reid did retire & then work again as a private detective so it makes sense for him to still be in it.

It ended with him almost being beaten to a pulp in the boxing ring by Drake. The episode where Shine murdered Joseph Merrick made me wail.

'Edmund Reid did retire & then work again as a private detective so it makes sense for him to still be in it.'

Hang on, when did he retire and then come back? Have I missed a series or something? Confused

In the last one I watched, he was working at Leman Street still, I'm sure. At the end of the series he and his daughter moved to the seaside. I thought he'd definitely left the force; don't remember any mention of him carrying on as a private detective.

I miss Drake the pugilist. He's all Mr health and safety now :(

diddl · 19/01/2016 15:38

I mean the real Edmund Reid.

Sorry, haven't seen the ep, so don't know how he's back in it.

But in real life he did retire from the force, run a pub for a while & then set up as a PI, so he obviously missed detecting!

I love the words they speak, but they seemed to be a bit stiff and wooden, especially the new AC. Didn't seem very natural.
Why isn't it advertised more? Why didn't the BBC keep it?

OnlyLovers · 19/01/2016 16:13

Oh, I see, diddl! I didn't know there was a real Edmund Reid. How interesting.

Nick, I've no idea. It's mystifying. I remember reading when the BBC didn't recommission it; they said it was because of 'disappointing viewing figures'.

Well, a) the BBC isn't commercial so shouldn't really have to worry about that and b) no bleedin' wonder when they hardly bothered advertising it!

diddl · 19/01/2016 16:17

Edmund Reid.

Abberline also existed.

MorrisZapp · 19/01/2016 16:52

They put it on the BBC after the ten o'clock news TV then said it wasn't getting enough viewers :(

I used my free Amazon Prime month to watch the last season! Don't like the idea that they have moved offices and no ginger sergeant!

BBC did the same with a series called Orphan Black. Was totally unpublicised, on BBC3. My daughter came across it, loved it and pestered us to watch - the first season was one of the best things I've ever seen!

Now on Netflix, season 4 (I think) coming in April.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 21/01/2016 22:03

Ooh. I'm another who used free Amazon Prime to watch the third series.

Please don't let them split up Drake and Rose

MorrisZapp · 22/01/2016 08:32

Saw an interview with Matthew McFadyen today, he's currently filming series 5!

He says he thinks 5 will be the final series.

He comes across as a really sweet person.
