I just wated to boast I have made each and everyone of her recipes from tonights show and they are seriously BLOODY good.

The turkey in teh bucket (She even had the same damn bucket as I used) makes things really easy as you don't need fridge space. she also cooks it for loads less than everyone else.

The only things I did differently was that the bread sauce and veg were prepped the day before too, so on the day I only cooked not prepped. However the throwaway dishes INSPIRED!! I think I might buy MIL some for this year

missed the bit about the roast potatos how do you make them crunchy....
i was dribbling by the way whilst watching it...

mancmum · 20/12/2006 20:59

potatoes - sprinkelwith semolina and bake in hot goose fat...

NO NO NO to disposable trays -- they do not decompose!! Not hard to wash up really!!

laneydaye · 20/12/2006 21:02

uurrgghhh semolina.... they looked so nice as well...

cheers though.

JoshandJamie · 20/12/2006 21:13

I just feel depressed after watching that because I had my christmas menu all sussed and now I want to change it and do hers.

The turkey skin didn't look crisp though??

crunchie · 20/12/2006 21:26

Well I don't eat meat nd DH said the turkey was yummy and moist, unlike his mothers dried up overcooked foul greasy offering

UnquietDad · 21/12/2006 10:24

Enjoyed the yummy, moist, slightly plump and luscious bird last night.

Her turkey looked pretty hot too.

KTreePee · 21/12/2006 10:31

Mancmum, but aren't they recyclable?

Thought the stuffing was a bit unusual....

naughtynoonoo · 21/12/2006 10:31

did the potatoes taste as good as they looked. DId you do the cooking in your sexy red silky dressing gown (wtf), do you pig out like her when the kids are in bed. Also thinking about doing the carrots which also look scrummy.

MrsSpoon · 21/12/2006 10:37

So Crunchie, that gingerbread stuffing isn't weird then? That was the only thing I was struggling with.

Don't suppose the potatoes would work with Olive Oil? It would burn before it was hot enough?

Going to try parsnips with mayple syrup, last time we had roast parsnips I did them with grainy mustard and honey, the kids hated them, think mayple syrup would be more up their street.

The rummaging in the fridge and the way she stuffs something into her gob makes me LOL everytime, although I am sure she doesn't eat like that in real life. She would be the size of a small country by now.

BoingBoing · 21/12/2006 12:23

A good job the gas hob wasn't switched on when she was wearing her silky red dressing gown. The sleeve would have gone up in seconds.
But DH decided that she was full of when she differentiated between belly pork and streaky bacon. He spent the rest of the programme screaming 'streaky bacon is ing belly pork you stupid bint. You know nothing'. A bit harsh I think, but ahem, we farm rare breed pigs

And Crunchie, did she pinch all your recipes, or did you have her book already?

BoingBoing · 21/12/2006 12:25

Mrs Spoon, if you can't get goose fat, I'd use vegetable oil not olive oil, as I don't think you'd get it hot enough. Not sure if I'm right or not though.

flatmouse · 21/12/2006 12:33

so where does one get these environmentally unfriendly throw-away roasting tins. I want!!!

MrsBadger · 21/12/2006 12:43

ok, I only caught the very end, but when she made her midnight sandwich what was the first thing she put on the bread, the soft dark stuff?

DH said it looked like Christmas pudding, but I think a pudding-and-turkey sandwich would be going it a bit even for Nigella...

MrsBadger · 21/12/2006 12:44

(NB anyone with environmental guilt re disposable roasting tins can recycle them as for kitchen foil)

LIZS · 21/12/2006 12:45

think that was the gingerbread stuffing .

aDadOnADustyRoad · 21/12/2006 12:45

boingboing is right, veg or sunflower oil better than olive for roasting.

Boo to you nigella for suggesting "throw-away" foil trays.

spykid · 21/12/2006 12:48

Lard lard lard.

As good as goose fat and just as fattening!

BoingBoing · 21/12/2006 12:50

LOL is lard rich in Omega 3 as well so we can convince everyone that roasties are healthy when we wolf them down?

SueBaroo · 21/12/2006 14:43

Dunno, but pigs are supposed to be really clever, so you could try saying that..

MrsSpoon · 21/12/2006 21:20

Hmmm, frightened to try the goose fat as I'm sure I'll like it too much . Might just stick to my usual light brushing of olive oil straight onto the potatoes after they are par boiled rather than the preheating of the oil in the oven.

DimpledThighs · 21/12/2006 21:26

I thouhgt the gingerbread stuffing looked just freaky! Cakey cake in the stuffing?

someone anyone - is it nice???

loved the cranberry sauce though - grand excuse for a bottle of cherry brandy!

bctmum · 21/12/2006 21:28

didn't like her comments to the chef on the saturday cooking programme - really put him down imho.

crunchie · 21/12/2006 22:20

OK the gingerbread stuffing is the one thing I hadn't made before, and please don't ask me how it all tasted I just make it, I don't eat meat However I would certainly try it as you have loads of salt in the bacon and the sweet savoury taste s teh theme, maple syrup parsnips and turkey, so IMHO I would def try the stuffing. Personally I don't care much for normal stuffing which is deicated onion/breadcrumb crumble IMHO, that stuff looked moist and lush

However the bread sauce was the BEST EVER, as was the turkey (by all accounts) the potatoes fab, cranberry sauce really FRESH tasting not jammy (which I find the jar stuff is)
