F*ck it.

I wanted to watch it and bloody missed it - is it repeated?

hatwoman · 17/12/2006 22:29

don't know - but find out - well worth it.

I agree hatwoman...incredibly powerful and thought provoking,

hatwoman · 17/12/2006 22:32

the seaside bit had me in tears. all the contrasts between warmth and beauty and kindness, and then deep sadness, grief, anger.

I really enjoyed it too!

beansprout · 17/12/2006 22:32

I thought it was a tad clunky in places, improvised dialogue never really quite works for me. I also wish they had a different ending, seemed a bit cheap to do something sooo depressing at the end!

Very well shot and acted though.

Sobernoel · 17/12/2006 22:34

Excellent performances, very moving. 'Blood Brothers' without the songs, though, really.

vitomum · 17/12/2006 22:34

I thought it was incredibly good and totally realistic. I wondered if some of the characters they came across, like the homeless couple etc were 'real' homeless people.

Thelittlesoldiersmummy · 17/12/2006 22:34

I thought it was a tad depressing going to bed with a heavy heart - there is never a need to kill Colin Firth !

ShinyHappyStarOfBethlehem · 17/12/2006 23:03

Yes it was depressing, but also excellent TV. I am looking around my (far too small, totally cluttered and unsuitable) council house and thinking it looks like a palace in comparison to those poor peoples' bedsits. I feel really well off all of a sudden!

I SO wanted things to work out for them didn't you? Poor Michelle... poor Mark (although a bit foolish).. and even poor Robert (Really wish Robert Carlise wouldn't keep playing parts such as peodophiles/human traffickers/ex druggies/murderers.. it's making it very hard for me not to shudder when I see his face on TV.. much prefered him when he was doing a full monty! )

I missed LOST and Torchwood for this (couldn't have watched them both anyway.. will catch up later in week) but it was worth it.

Very strong acting and powerful stuff.

Tommy · 17/12/2006 23:06

vitomum - some of the chararcters were "real" people (I knew someone in it )

Cried buckets in the maternity hospital scene - not good for pregnant ladies that one I don't think. I was bawling my eyes out!

hatwoman · 17/12/2006 23:08

Obviously it was depressing - but, imo, it wasn't, as dh put it, "unremittingly" depressing. each scenario turned pretty horrible - but the way in which this happened wasn't inevitable. there were bits of light and beauty in each of the lives portrayed, but for various reasons the light got shut out, but I thought the underlying message was that it didn;t have to be like this.

It's made me count my blessings. Very well acted, it could easily have been a documentary.

whensantagotstuckupAITCHimney · 17/12/2006 23:13

so what happened to everyone, then? i had to stop watching it when she went to the maternity hospital...
what was rober carlisle's story in the end?

DelGirlsRingAreYouListening · 17/12/2006 23:16

he found out his mother had died and on the way back to the b&b he walked in front of colin firths car and got angry. He must've followed them home and colin answered the door and he stabbed him. Colins wife was then shown in the hospital having had a little girl.

whensantagotstuckupAITCHimney · 17/12/2006 23:17

aaah. hhhmmm. ta.

DelGirlsRingAreYouListening · 17/12/2006 23:18

Hmm Grin

noddyholder · 18/12/2006 09:24

Really enjoyed it Not the most festive film though but thought provoking

katzg · 18/12/2006 09:29

i thought it was the most depressing thing i have ever watched.

expatinscotland · 18/12/2006 09:31

Yes.

WTF?!

Great acting.

Why is Robert Carlyle always the baddie?

I recorded Driving Lessons.

expatinscotland · 18/12/2006 09:32

What happened to Michelle's baby? Was it okay?

expatinscotland · 18/12/2006 09:40

Anyone, anyone?

Colin Frith is good at playing a namby pampy sort.

suburbancranberryjellybrain · 18/12/2006 09:45

didn't see it all but saw last few mins - both babies were ok but the mums were looking a bit ropey - for good reason - and colin firth had been stabbed.

SmileysPeople · 18/12/2006 09:47

babies were Ok, just V distraught lonely mothers.
I thouht the dialogue was excellent, and not suprised some of the charcters were actually real, it did feel that way.
But thought the ending was a bit forced and stuck on. Following people's stories and then suddenly 'what a coincidence' that Colin should be murdered by someone living in the B and B were he'd be trying to help people.
Would have been more powerful without that unecessary drama.
What was that message then?
Don't help people, they'll only throw it back in yor face. Or stab you.

expatinscotland · 18/12/2006 09:48

I had to catch it in bits and pieces b/c I was baking our Xmas cake, but didn't that one lassie attack Colin Frith so then he sort of backed out and went back to his regular life or that?
