Morning all.
Just a quick post, as I am late to leave for our Remembrance Parade where I will not be eyeing up men in uniform Have a good day everyone x

Morning, we are meant to be going to local remembrance parade but raining at the moment. We have an hour before we need to walk to it so may brighten up.

pixieg1rl · 08/11/2015 09:48

Yes Kelly, if your child's lunch box doesn't look like this you just aren't trying hard enough. Confused

oh god pix reckon that's a full time job itself! Shock

KellyHb · 08/11/2015 10:21

You can tell that's been made by someone with far too much time on their hands pix.

pixieg1rl · 08/11/2015 10:33

I always try to artistically arrange DS's ham sandwich and pombears Wink

MaddieMoo82 · 08/11/2015 10:35

I was sent off with 2 sausage rolls and packet of crisps.... Hopefully still acceptable Smile

Richtea19 · 08/11/2015 11:06

I only puréed beige food, parsnip, swede etc as we had beige carpets and DS was a very sickly baby (prob because of the shit food I gave him!) I've learnt a lot since then! Perhaps I wasn't quite ready to give up the life we had before kids. I've always had criticism and odd looks, I don't think I was a natural mother and always found it hard. I've learnt to live with it and will never be one of those earth mothers that cut sandwiches in the shapes of Disney characters!!!!!

Just dropped DS up at the chapel at the squadron for the parade. Very emotional.

Afternoon all. Sort of widh we'd cancelled the weekend away. Not been a great deal of fun. My friend's Mum has offered her the money (no idea how much) to clear the debt as an advance on the inheritance but the brother in law says there are 'tax implications'. Anyone financially aware to comment on this? I am doubtful there's enough in the mother's estate to cop for inheritance tax but could be wrong. In any case who is taxed on the gift. My friend or her mother?

Ilovelblue · 08/11/2015 12:18

The BIL got his info from the internet; he's no accountant.

KellyHb · 08/11/2015 12:39

Pom bears are a staple food in this house for the kids pix. Smile

Richtea19 · 08/11/2015 12:39

She is very lucky to have a mother than can help her and wants to. I have no understanding of tax law I'm afraid, but I'm sure it's a bit tricky as there's always a tax to pay!

pixieg1rl · 08/11/2015 13:28

You can make tax free gifts every year (tax free to the person gifting it), put to a certain amount.

Money you have given to people who inherit from your will is taken into consideration from an inheritance tax point of view on a sliding scale up to 7 years prior to your death.

I don't know anything about sums or thresholds and my information could be way out of date. It is worth exploring with a professional so she understands what this would mean. Citizens Advice is a good place to start, they may be able to point her towards some debt counselling as well.

Feel sorry for your friend ilove. Having gotten ourselves into a lot of debt years ago, you really need to deal with the spending etc as well as clear the debt. We are so much more careful with our money these days, although with 2 kids there's never really any spare to spend

KellyHb · 08/11/2015 13:58

Ditto ice re: cost of children. I dread how much having 3 kids is going to cost in years to come when they're wanting the latest mobiles and expensive trainers etc. The kids cost enough at the moment. Confused

Afternoon everyone!

Of course yesterday was a major disappointment on the BA close encounter front, but excellent otherwise, despite the grotty weather. We had a yum lunch at Tramshed in Hoxton, overlooked by the Damien Hirst pickled calf with a cockerel on its back. Dd refused to sit facing it then nearly turned vegetarian on the spot when the roast chicken came out complete with claws still on...

My interest was taken with a rather delightful dad at the next table, dining with his two young daughters. He removed his jacket to reveal rolled shirt sleeves and very acceptable forearms. Smile Also, brown hair just the right side of curly not guineapig

icemist I'm afraid I'm having to keep the last week in Jan and first weekend in Feb free at the moment cos a friend's celebrating a big birthday. Plans haven't quite been finalised though.

Onlygirljen · 08/11/2015 14:43

I second pixie in saying that a trip to the citizens advice bureau would be worth it for your friend ilove. I'm reasonably sure the seven year period still stands, so any cash her mother gives her towards paying off the debt would certainly be taxed if she was to die in the seven years after the gift.

Pom bears are part of a nutritional staple diet aren't they?! I hope so, mine have them practically every day. There's a girl in my 8 yo's class who comes to school with packed lunches featuring her mums own handmade sushi etc etc - every day!! I have no idea how people have time for this kind of thing!! I did do baby led weaning second time round, but mainly because I didn't have the patience to steam and purée everything.

KellyHb · 08/11/2015 15:01

Sounds like you had a lovely day orph sans BA sighting but seeing someone with nice forearms and hair isnt a bad substitute Smile

Nick Preston tweeted a nice Remembrance Day tweet. He seems like a lovely person. I did wonder whether any of the OG cast would send any today just I recall LT doing a bit of Royal British Legion and poppy work last year. Hmm

MaddieMoo82 · 08/11/2015 16:16

Ah orphan your chicken and Guinea comment made me laugh. I went to Peru a few years ago and they serve Guinea pig. A couple of Aussies in my travel group ordered it and it came out whole (all bits present) looking like it was running for its life!
Good forearms, lovely hair, looking after children.... Sounds perfect!
rich I'm in total agreement with how difficult the whole baby thing has been, I naively had no idea. I went on the moors yesterday with DS and the dog. It was chilly but not freezing. Some unhelpful lady told me I was being cruel and it was too cold. He was snuggled up in the sling and fast asleep, and its something I've regulary done but it did make me feel very poop! Confused

KellyHb · 08/11/2015 16:42

Gahh!!! Poor mads I would've told that woman to mind her own business! How annoying...

pixieg1rl · 08/11/2015 17:11

Nod and smile mads and then mentally tell them to piss off.

I took DS swimming yesterday and one of the instructors came out of the pool with his t shirt clinging to his body like a young Matthias.

Thought I'd break cover again, still hovering around in the background. mads how did you not respond to that level of rudeness!
kelly hope your tooth is on the mend
ilove sorry to hear about your friend-you must be quite some friend to others by the woes they share with you
Still sort of planning to join the London gathering, easy as if DH will in fact be on exrecise, working out how to broach it otherwise.
Tried to watch scd live and couldn't cope with Tess and Claudia but do enjoy the delectable Gleb

moojangles · 08/11/2015 18:42

Ooh and a huge thanks to all of you ff authors

Ilovelblue · 08/11/2015 19:24

Evening ladies, back home now and feel completely wrung out!

The last 30 miles home were horrendous. Absolutely torrential rain and all the spray from lorries etc on the motorway. Am always scared of aquaplaning when it's so bad - and you see some of the idiots doing 90mph in the outside lane.

My friend seemed a bit better today but imagine it will all come back to her tonight when she gets home. I still think the best option would be to take her Mum's offer of money and then the hit of the tax implication after her Mum's death. I can't work out whether the tax situation is only in the event of the estate being liable for inheritance tax or not (£325k) but seem to think it is, if the 20 or so websites I've looked at are anything to go by. She's going to Citizens Advice and the bank tomorrow. She's also going ot the doctor on Thursday for what seems to be depression.

Thanks for whoever said I am a good friend (Mooj)? I think Jan is the only friend who's confided like this - if I've mentioned anyone else on here, it's probably been work people. I do seem to get lumbered with other folks' problems. Must be a good listener.

Ilovelblue · 08/11/2015 19:30

Anyway, enough of her woes. The funniest thing to happen today was the couple sitting next to us at breakfast. I presumed they were together but as the man started to chat to us, we realised they must be having an affair. I asked where they were from: he told us where he lived and she kept quiet. He had twins and she kept quiet again. The television was on in the background and showing some of last night's Remembrance Service and he started to tell us he'd been in the Navy for 28 years. He clearly realised he had a captive audience and was playing to the gallery as it were. He'd served in Iraq twice, in Afghanistan, Sierra Leone and both Gulf Wars. He was on secondment to the army in Afghanistan and said it was the easiest tour ever and if people tell you Bastion was dreadful, not to believe a word they say! He reckoned the FOBs were different matters though - I daren't mention OG and was willing my friend to keep quiet. He told us what FOBs were so I just nodded sagely! He said Iraq was the worst. His views on ISIS were something probably not to repeat on here or anywhere else for that matter.
