Surely the most preposterous thing ever?
Why, why, why?

I saw the gateau one too... wasn't it disgusting, watching him licking and masticating all those tiny samples in the lab

I love watching this too Kathy, he always looks like he's having such fun and while I wouldn't like to go to quite the lengths he does to make a pizza and I agree using Turbot for fish and chips is ridiculous, I am inspired to slow roast a rib of beef and I like his explanations of the science behind his methods.

They've been serialising this in one of the sunday papers.

He even tells you where you can get liquid nitrogen from

Its interesting, but not really how you would cook at home.

Snail porridge - SNAIL PORRIDGE?!?!?!
Yes, I watched him make that once on some BBC2 programme and have never given the pretentious failed chemist another look.
Give me Gino Di Campo any - hairy but horny and that accent...........

According to this, the snail porridge is nice...

Ooooh I've just clicked who he is!!! Am a bit slow, sorry.

I remember reading in the Sunday Times a few weeks ago a lovely recipe for ice cream. But then I saw the bit about having blocks of dry ice delivered to make it with.... is that the same guy?

well, I think he's fab. I like watching him doing all this weird and wacky stuff even tho I wouldn't do it myself.

We're off to the Fat Duck in Jan for a celebration and I can't wait.

Also, I heard him on Desert Island Discs the othr day and he came across as a really nice, normal person.

Was anyone else a bit surprised by his house on the last one ?

I expected him to live in a swanky, uber pretentious minimalist pad, but no, it appeared to be a very average 50's suburban number with a bolt-on plastic conservatory

He's not doing anything new, people have been able to buy aeros for years and people used to enjoy using their Soda Streams for a few years in the 80s.
It's just a conceit, something to watch on telly and not a lot more.

DH has been a fan for years.
It's cookery for science geeks. He loves cookery and science....I'm not that fussed but then, I prefer a victoria sponge, tbh.

I think the point of it is so that you can watch it with your beloved and laugh at the stupid little fecker personally

I've only seen the fish and chip one though ... he had to cook the chips 3 times and that stupid little atomiser of vinegar made me want to throw something at the screen

good telly

I love this

I am a good cook in rl (not that I would ever dream of saying so in RL) and love the effort he puts in and the science behind what he is doing. However I am not buggering up a le creuset frying pan to make Pizza. Nor will I hand knead my dough when the breadmaker does it all for me. This is not a programme to emulate, but to enjoy. Anyone want to take me to the fat duck ?

Snort
He's plunging the chicken into boiling water for 30 secs, then into cold water for 30 secs, and then repeating
This is but stage one of a four-stage process

I'd just come on here to start a thread about the very same thing. He really, really annoys me with his pretensious cooking. As if anyone in the real world has time to faff about with boiling water/cold water.
