Anyone watching?

Just started watching it now

CaveMum · 30/08/2015 21:49

I'm wondering what some of them expected this was going to be like. Some of them seem to be under the impression it would be fairly easy!

Freddie's rather wooden too!

I guess maybe they thought it would be like an army induction?? I saw the marine programme the other year which seemed tough but this seems loads worse.

CaveMum · 30/08/2015 22:00

The Marine programme was good. My BIL is an ex-Royal so was very amused by it.

Special Forces training is always going to be so much tougher, they only take the best of the best.

I really enjoyed it. Any votes for winner yet? I chuckled when the first bloke went! I think he got his just desserts!

fuctifino · 30/08/2015 22:31

I really enjoyed it.
Lacey looks a tough cookie but his loopy attitude may be his downfall!

fuctifino · 30/08/2015 22:31

Lippy....not loopy Blush

CaveMum · 30/08/2015 22:36

Yes I was amused when the first guy went.

Not sure on the winner yet, there's quite a few we haven't seen much of.

What do we think will be the toughest training regime? The Israeli and Russian ones sound brutal, but the SAS is supposed to be one of the hardest to get through.

OP posts:
BrushtheHeat · 30/08/2015 22:36

Ha ha loopy! Yeah, when these things follow a particular person it's either cos they end up doing very well or fail quite spectacularly. I reckon Miller seems good and there's been some stuff in the press about her being tough. Would be nice to see a woman take the crown! I think elimination is a tad unfair-they let through people who spent a fair while in the medic tent or warm up tent when poor old Pounder struggled through with bad cramp. Hmmmn.

emotionsecho · 30/08/2015 22:39

I watched too and am ashamed to say I enjoyed itBlush.

The first one who went was a Grade A Idiot wasn't he? His comments were incredibly rude.

Can't pick a winner yet but I think the Doctor Miller(?) does very well and she did look very competent to me.

That 'breakout' section was pretty brutal and then you realise what they are doing is a mere fraction of what the real Special Forces do. Also the 'sugar cookies" reward, not my idea of a reward I was at least expecting a cup of tea and a biscuit!

BrushtheHeat · 30/08/2015 22:39

I'm quite interested in the Philippines NAVSOG as I've got no idea what sort of stuff they would do. Although I bet it's a damn sight harder training in hot/humid se Asia than Blighty!! Reckon the Russians will be tough! And Israel.

BrushtheHeat · 30/08/2015 22:43

He came across like such a wanker!! And yes, unbelievably rude-and a coward as he didn't sound off to the SEAL blokes faces! Such a mental.challenge too-no level of fitness can prepare you for breakout or surf torture.

emotionsecho · 30/08/2015 22:46

Some years ago there was a similar programme putting members of the general public through some of the SAS Training and I think a woman did exceptionally well in that she may even have won it, surprisingly she did the best in the section relating to capture and interrogation, tough men crumbled and she stood fast.

Difficult to know which one will be the hardest, I think the SAS one is reputed to be the toughest because they go through all scenarios.

CaveMum · 06/09/2015 20:24

Bumping ready for tonight's episode.

emotionsecho · 06/09/2015 20:28

I'm going to have watch on catch-up!

CaveMum · 06/09/2015 21:11

I think the Israeli guy is going to be tougher than the SEALS. It's the quiet menace.

For all the dramatic music I find this programme weirdly dull (only watching as I got stuck on the sofa watching Dragon's Den and can't be arsed to get up and deal with the dishes)

CaveMum · 06/09/2015 21:45

The music is a bit much, agree.

I tried the holding something above my head (not a rifle I hasten to add) which didn't weigh anywhere near 4.5 kilos and it did not go well!

That was a very physical episode, the team building/individuals tests were interesting, it's fascinating to see how people behave.

I've still got my eye on the doctor Miller (I think), I have a feeling she is going to be very good.

InimitableJeeves · 14/09/2015 14:56

What do we think about the sudden death eliminations? It seems daft to lose someone who has consistently been doing well for, essentially, one error.

CaveMum · 14/09/2015 19:05

I missed last night so need to catch up.

One of them, John Hunter is from my town and he spends most of his life carrying sacks of coal round the streets. He does this for fun, apparently. He was the year above me at school so that makes him 51 - mucho respect old man, I struggle with 2 Sainsbury carrier bags.

godsavethequeeeen · 14/09/2015 19:19

I do enjoy programmes like this. Not got into the individuals yet really, just find the regimes interesting.

emotionsecho · 15/09/2015 00:51

I thought it was a bit harsh on Steggles because he had seemed so good up to that point, however, map reading is an essential skill and they were warned beforehand which is why Mateu (sp?) was so concerned.

I did laugh when both teams left the casualty who was being medically evacuated behindGrin.

That 'drink' sounded vile, my hat is off to them for stomaching that.

I thought this week was tough both mentally and physically, lugging those logs everywhere, all the press-ups, the changes of leaders mid task, punish the team for the failure of one member, very hard.

InimitableJeeves · 29/09/2015 21:07

Does anyone else increasingly get the feeling with the instructors that it's all a bit of an exercise in willy waving? They all seem to spend an inordinate amount of time saying we had it TOUGH in our army, you're going to find it even more hellish with me than you have with anyone else because I'm much TOUGHER than they are. I'd be tempted to tell each of them that they weren't deceiving anyone. Mind you, I'd never go in for something like this in a million years.
