New French drama, bit weird, looks like it could be a bit like The Returned...

I visited Bordeaux enough to get to know it well. It depends what you mean by spread out.. I would say London is spread out. Comparatively, Bordeaux is minute, although if you prefer smaller towns I can see Bordeaux might seem too big.

I found the climate there quite pleasant, it was never uncomfortably hot. But then my family had a house in Tuscany, so I was used to 40 degree heat in summer.

When me and my husband came to buy our own holiday place, we considered that area and also Provence, but in the end opted for Tuscany.

SuperFlyHigh · 25/07/2015 11:35

Yeah Bordeaux is minute compared to London (am a Londoner).

Just where the parents holiday home is (Jonzac not far from Saintes etc) if you want to go out in Bordeaux due to trains etc you have to stay overnight. Not so much in La Rochelle (though slightly further away, 10 minutes I think car/train).

We know Bordeaux better now but when I was first there the tram system was confusing. We used to fly into La Rochelle a lot more you see so knew that area better, it's smaller than Bordeaux but different vibe completely (so I think).

also in the summer the humidity is unbearable the heat not so bad, I'm used to the 40 degree heat you get there, I just found it really humid. and when you factor that we mostly trained in it was tiring after a long day.

My DB's IL's family know Aix very well and are thinking now about getting a holiday home there.

Never been to Tuscany!

Just watched on 4OD and have come straight to Mumsnet to see if there is a thread. Oh goody!

I thought Maisoneuve's son was rather easy on the eye Wink if not MN himself.

Interesting Guardian article
here which dissects and reminds.

There must be a clue in the Little Red Riding Hood story. Grandmother???

MisguidedAngel · 26/07/2015 16:05

Does anyone think that the shooter at the end looks a bit like Damien, Paul's old school friend? He seemed to have a well-informed and unhealthy interest in the case and in Paul's involvement. Although his boss has an alibi for the cliff "suicides", could Damien have been working for him (he owes him one after all).

Interesting that the Guardian reviewer didn't pick up on the odd socks. One up for you Cruikshank.

Don't chase me away, but I think I finally worked out who Maisonneuve reminds me off.

Barry Manillow. Except not orange and with slimmer cheeks.

Hey, where is everybody? I am struggling a bit with the second episode and was relying on you lot to come up with some good insights.

whoreandpeace · 04/08/2015 00:53

Just watched it on catch up. I'm a bit confused too! The guy who was being questioned in the cell then hung himself. And guessing it was his ashes on the mantel? He is connected to the other two dead guys in some way and was very frightened. Serrano and Gorbier are the baddies. Why do they hate Paul?
Sandra's man. Is he having an affair? And with whom?

MisguidedAngel · 04/08/2015 12:30

No, I can't work out that connection either, in spite of watching it twice. But he (Richard LaPlace) was scared that he'd be next.

Paul sent Serrano and Gorbier to prison for their (separate) crimes when he was in the force (before his accident)

We think Sandra's man is having an affair, based on the lipstick she found in his car, a text on his phone, and the fact that a woman answered when Sandra called the number. Then she was sick (shocked or pregnant?)

Here's the link to the Guardian's Witness Recap Blog for Episode 2 - so many questions raised.....

Northumberlandlass · 04/08/2015 18:22

I'm enjoying it! Although I have been watching it late in the evening & my concentration isn't good! I keep forgetting to read & that I don't speak French so have to rewind.

The guy who hanged himself knew both of the other victims & had a record for violent crime.

I have no other theories, but will check back in soon!

qazxc · 09/08/2015 10:58

Whose ashes were they? the guy that hung himself and knew the 2 architects or the cellmate that they tied to the bed to make believe that the Kaz was dead?

FawnDrench · 10/08/2015 15:20

They were the ashes of the bloke that hung himself I believe.

The other blokes body from the prison fire was exhumed to prove it wasn't who they originally thought.
So they then realised wotsisname the murderer with the clown face was still alive.

That policewoman was such a poor shot which made the "chase" not at all credible. She had plenty of opportunity to wound him surely.

But I will still keep watching as it has hooked me in.

Obviously I can't remember any of their flipping names!

qazxc · 10/08/2015 21:27

I know! she had loads of time to shoot him while he was reloading FFS!
And then going blundering around the forest looking for him, he could have easily shoot her then.
Does anyone think there is anything in the fact that the literal translation of showhome is "witness house"?

MisguidedAngel · 12/08/2015 12:18

Blundering around the forest in those ridiculous shoes too!!

I think there's definitely an association between the title and the literal translation of show house but I don't know what and my French friends don't either.

FawnDrench · 13/08/2015 20:30

Well - I wasn't expecting THAT at the end!

I suppose it must all tie in somehow.

Very convenient that the last tennis player chappie was shot on the ferry. Can't work that out at all and sort of suspect it was Paul or Justin.
But why??

Only 2 episodes left.
