Oh lucky lucky you.
Have holidayed every year since I was born on the coast to the south - porthcothan and treyarnon.
It is my favourite place in the whole world and dd is so excited about going again next may,
Am positively green with envy - would love to move there but dh's firm very much based here.
We're holding out hopes of buying a house there one day now were mortgage free here.

xena · 16/11/2006 21:24

I didn't expect anyone to respond - very excited in our house we exchanged last week so we are up to our necks in boxes atm

Jealous, moi??
Bloody hell yes!

How old are your children? They will have an absolute BALL! Will they bus into Wadebridge for school?

wrinklytum · 16/11/2006 21:59

OOH v.v.v jealous. My Gran lives in Rock and it is gorgeous.Hope you love it there.

BoingBoing · 16/11/2006 22:12

Niiiiice! Posh end of town old Padstein. You'll get to look down on all the emmets who come down for their hols each summer, not to mention moaning about the extra traffic they produce. Are you moving into Padstow itself, or outside?

Congratulations to you, you'll love it, just go easy on the locals.

Paddlechick666 · 16/11/2006 22:42

ooh you lucky thing

i'm very !

we were married on a beach just outside Newquay and try to get down at least twice a year.

if i can't emigrate to NZ then Cornwall is my 2nd choice.

good luck with the move!

xena · 17/11/2006 09:43

The house we are buying is just outside of wadebridge (egloshayle) so we will be in walking distance of wadebridge primary and secondary (DC's are 8,5,2 and 7mths) We have gone for semi rural, its a 30 min trek from the town centre but in the most gorgeous vale. It still feels like a dream tbh. MIL thinks that we are crazy and that the children will resent us when they get to their teens

boing- a guy who moved down 20yrs ago from london said that we must never used the phrase 'we do it like this in london'

Oh yes, NEVER mention London, or how cheap stuff is in Cornwall or moan about anything related to farming (ie mud, subsidies, tractors on the road, F&M, smells...) or that there is no Waitrose before Plymouth. Anything outside Cornwall is 'up country'. 'Visitors' (tourists) are fine, as long as they bugger off in September. And if you have a four wheel drive you have to keep it muddy at all times to prove you're local and not some wealthy incomer

And remember, you too are an incomer, and they may just begin to accept you after about 30 years if you're lucky, unless you can prove Cornish heritage going back centuries. Hmmm, I only have another 25 years to go.

And Egloshayle is a VERY pretty valley.

BoingBoing · 17/11/2006 10:59

Oh, and the kids will only hate you if they're not into surfing, given how close you are to Newquay and once they go to uni or wherever, their mates will LOVE you.

moljam · 17/11/2006 11:00

if you marry cornish man you can be excepted in 15 years as i was.!.i moved to cornwall when i was 13,we lived in middle of davidstow moors, was great!bit of shock at first but im still here!though not on moors!

poppynic · 17/11/2006 11:13

Nice one. Yes Paddlechick, good choice, I'm from NZ and missing it, now living in London. We just holidayed in St Ives and it did feel a lot like being in NZ. Aaahhhhhhh.

cornishpasty · 17/11/2006 13:34

I've lived in cornwall all my life and i often think how lucky i am to be able to bring my children up here. I love it - wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

moljam · 17/11/2006 13:39

agree, great place for children.where are you cornishpasty?im in camelford.north cornwall

cornishpasty · 17/11/2006 13:47

Near to St Austell - so not the most scenic part of Cornwall but i still love it.

moljam · 17/11/2006 13:50

camelford may be pretty but not very exciting!

pooka · 17/11/2006 14:02

Egloshayle lovely!
You can do the Camel Trail to your heart's content. We used to sail up and down the Camel with my uncle. Him and 5 children in a Wayfairer. Remember once we got stuck on a mudbank and all had to get out and push. Then went, mud spattered, for tea in Wadebridge.
