I know I am sad. But I am hooked. I just love it.

And the Sheriff actually looks old enough to have hair between his legs .

southeastastra · 29/10/2006 15:46

whenever i see the sheriff though i just see keith allen then think about lily allen and i just can't take him seriously

DumbledoresGirl · 29/10/2006 18:04

The best sherrif of Nottingham was Alan Rickman - this guy doesn't match him I'm afraid.

Oh dear, I have been thinking about Robin Hood all day - more the character than the actor - I must admit I was a trifle put off to learn that he boasts of having a provisional driving licence - and I am kicking my family out of the room at 7 so I can watch last night's episode repeated on BBC3 without their constant twitterings to put me off.

Ooh I don't know, Alan Rickman was deliciously bad (I wish they'd show that series again), but this one has a sort of campness which I love.

DumbledoresGirl · 29/10/2006 19:50

SCC - don't want to correct you, but the Alan Rickman performance I was thinking of was in Kevin Costner's film Robin of Sherwood. Were you thinking of the Michael Praed series?

Yes, just watched last night's episode and the sheriff is good.

Snort SEAstra. They should have had Lily for "Maid" Marian and be done with it...
Sorry DG, I liked Richard Armitage in North and South, and I love the tale of Robin Hood, but I'm afraid this lot are not a patch on Errol, Alan, Basil and Olivia
Strictly Come Dancing is more dangerous and heartstopping tbh.

expatinscotland · 29/10/2006 19:57

They can film Alan Rickman eating cereal and I'd get turned on .

southeastastra · 29/10/2006 20:08

at provisional license! alan rickman was the best sheriff i agree. mmm alan rickman

ScareyCaligulaCorday · 29/10/2006 23:34

Oh yes I'd forgotten all about Kevin Costner. I had a jumbled memory of all my favourites - Michael Praed and Alan Rickman... but somehow Kevin Costner didn't make it into my memory... can't think why.

expatinscotland · 29/10/2006 23:36

You didn't forget Kevin, Caligula, he's just so bad, your subconscious blocked him out and prevented him from making it to your long-term memory to spare yourself the nightmare.

ScareyCaligulaCorday · 29/10/2006 23:37

I think you might be right. Also, when I had a flash of him as Robin Hood, he was surrounded by water and Whitney Houston was there. It somehow just wasn't right...

expatinscotland · 29/10/2006 23:38

It could almost be right as long as Whitney had her gob shut and Kevin was wearing a burka.

tigertum · 30/10/2006 00:24

What about the totally 'sack of potatos' baby in the last episodes. I couldn't believe the bit where he did all the fighting with the baby under his arm, chucking it all over the place and then throwing it at the armoured solider and when, the solider catches it, fighting him down to the goround - whilst still holding the baby! Then there was all the galloping around on horses bit.

It's a strange series. One minute it's cheesy as hell, the nest minute there are the most unreleastic fake babies being used in sword fights, then there's deep, soleful moments anf then people being stabbed to death in full view. I don't know what its trying to be, but we are still watching it.

ScareyCaligulaCorday · 30/10/2006 11:21

Oh that baby episode was so bad

Hilarious

ginmummy · 30/10/2006 11:32

I actually liked the Kevin Costner film! Factual inaccuracies aside, as well as American accents in Nottingham it's ok on it's own merit. I would have killed to be Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and have Kevin Costner and Alan Rickman fighting over who gets my vertue! I'd give it to both of them. At the same time!

DumbledoresGirl · 30/10/2006 11:48

Agree tigertum about that scene where he fights holding the baby - pure comedy, unintentional though it might have been!

Also agree with ginmummy about having Kevin and Alan fighting for me - OK by me!

I am sorry to have to tell you Expat, but, whilst decrying the dreadful Americanisation of an English hero, I rather liked Kevin Costner too. His voice does it for me. I don't know why. Even so, it was deliciously gratifying to see the big Hollywood star being acted off the screen by Alan Rickman - home grown proper actor.

I used to love the Disney version with the foxes....... but it hasn't aged very well
can't stand Kevin Costner, and am finding the series crapola, but dd loves it [sigh]

ginmummy · 30/10/2006 12:08

I also rather liked Alan Rickman as Snape in the Harry Potter films, especially when he turned out to be a goodie in the third one! Like expat said, they could film him eating breakfast cereal or even just reading the ingredients on the packet and it would do it for me!

Notquitesotiredmum · 30/10/2006 14:07

Ooh I'll share JA with you DG. And he's 6 foot tall! Mmmmmmmm.

Really disappointed with the series - the dss (aged 3 and 6) loved the first episode. Were both seriously upset last night as we watched someone bludgeoned to death.

I quite liked the Costner film too. I thought that the inaccuracies were supposed to be there as a joke (like Robin escaping 12 century Jerusalem via a cast iron man hole cover)??!! Agree that Rickman has to be the best Sherrif ever.

ScareyCaligulaCorday · 30/10/2006 14:10

Oh I want to go and watch that Kevin Costner film now to see AR as the sheriff.

Actually, I do get him confused with Snape. It's more or less the same character, isn't it?

rebelmum1 · 30/10/2006 14:22

I find him a bit too rakish, not that rakish is bad, but he reminds me of a 90's pop band type.

rebelmum1 · 30/10/2006 14:23

the new one not costner ... i preferred alan rickman character in that one ..

DumbledoresGirl · 30/10/2006 15:11

God my children must be inured to violence. They watched the bludgeoning to death scene (shouldn't that be hacked to death? - they were using swords) without turning a hair and I have a 6 yo and a 3 yo too. My 10 yo probably lifted his head from his PSP to watch! The only one to comment was my 8 yo who is by far the most sensitive and asked me what was happening.

I'm rather more partial to Fred Eliot these days. I'm still in mourning (boo hoo)

rebelmum1 · 30/10/2006 15:37

My dd goes on shoots, how bad is that!!
