The content is right but the style seems much more suited to older children...or is it just me and mine that have a problem?

ds (3.5) is regulary scared by Big Cook, Little Cook, Fireman Sam and other stuff, but he ADORES numberjacks, especially Spooky Spoon...

ProfYaffle · 30/10/2006 19:57

DD (2.5) loves it. I'm a bit scared though!

CreepyCrawlyCarmenere · 30/10/2006 20:00

Yesterday I would have said no, that dd (2.8) loves numberjacks but tonight she has come racing downstairs screaming in terror that 'spooky spoon was going to get me' .
It is the first time I have seen her genuinely scared

tortoiseshell · 30/10/2006 20:11

ds1 (5) is petrified of that bubble head that the eyes pop out of - he ran to the other end of the house screaming hysterically, and sobbed until I told him he didn't have to watch it at all.

bea · 31/10/2006 09:16

dd (5) loves it... to the point of annoyingly so!... e get recounts of every episode... and on a weekend trip to manchester we had an in depth analysis of spooky spoon.. courtesy of dd and ds (2 half)... where they argued over who would telll me about the finer points of spooky spoons actions/personality/appearence etc...

saying this ds has a love / hate relationship with it... he likes to watch behind my legs or poking his head around the corner of the kitchen...

ditto to all you 'numberwangs' dh insists on calling it that!...

DumbledoresGirl · 31/10/2006 09:24

Ds3, as I type, is whining away at my side because I have just told him for the second time in 10 minutes that Numberjacks won't be on for another 2 hours yet. He is absolutely obsessed with it! No other programme interests him like Numberjacks does. His siblings (aged 10,8 and 6) are still on half term holiday and I have to say they happily watch it with him too, so there must be something about it! Ds3 does say the shape changer thing is scary, but the way he talks about it, it is only scary in a fun way.

I have only watched the programme once and thought it was rather muddled - trying to do the concept of takeaway one - but with all this talk about it, I feel I should watch again!

benemily1 · 06/11/2006 09:36

My son(4) and daughter(6) love numberjacks. My son would never acknowledge he even knew his numbers until he started watching this.
Mine don't scare easily but I agree the man in the white coat is a bit scary, but only because I feel like I need a straight jacket and a padded cell sometimes!! lol

maduser · 10/11/2006 12:44

My Son Nick (3) adores number jacks. He isn't scared one bit by the characters, in fact, he prefers the "scaries" to the numbers. He's really started to do numbers well since watching it, and even knows the colours of each one when we colour in the downloaded images.

gegs73 · 10/11/2006 12:47

My ds 2.6 is really scared of it and doesn't like the slime blob that he calls bogey nose. Had to ban it in our house or we get wake up calls in the middle of the night because hes scared.

cazzaG · 01/07/2007 22:54

Thought up by work experience kids on special brew???...I think thats a bit harsh...I'm really impressed with the way its grabbed the attention of my two 18moth year olds...they notice numbers everywhere and call them out which I'm told is pretty impressive for their age!...they do call them "Jacks" as opposed to numbers tho lol...I'm a maths teacher and we're always trying to come up with inventive ways to get kids thinking and enjoying numbers and problem solving..all I can say is well done to the makers...PS - Mine actually love the baddies more that the Jacks...maybe they're just thick skinned??

LyraB · 01/07/2007 22:58

DS1 (4) once woke crying in the night because he could "see" the problem blob on his bed.
DS2 (3) is scared of the number taker. But he's not scared when he watches Dr Who.

TitchyBoo · 15/07/2007 15:55

I have just done a search on google to see if I could find anyone else reporting their kid is scared of Numberjacks so I'm relieved, and interested, to read this thread on here!!

My ds is 4 and is absolutely petrified of the Numberjacks! He used to love CBeebies but now refuses to watch it and in fact runs scared out the room when I even put on the channel, or say I am going to put it on. He says it's cos of Numberjacks, and I think 'Problem Blob' in particular.

When Numberjacks started on CBeebies (about a year ago) he watched the first couple and seemed ok with it, but a bit 'wary'. Then he saw the one with the Blob in it, and that man whose eyes pop out, and since then he is absolutley freaked out by the mention of CBeebies or Numberjacks.

I have a dd whose 8 months and I will want her to watch CBeebies so need to get him to watch it again!

DH and I were talking about how to tackle this problem and we have just had a watch of it - we both agreed it was a bit 'weird' in parts and wandered if it gives out subliminal messages to kids!!?

Glad he isn't the only one freaked by this freaky programme.

My dd aged 23 months is absolutely petrified of Numberjacks. Actually trembles with terror if it comes on. She says it's the blob that frightens her too.

TheMaskedPoster · 19/07/2007 19:36

dd (3) LOVES numberjacks and especially the Blob! We even have a toy in the bath which resembles the blob, and she plays forever with it (even pretending to be the 'eye' coming out of the mouth with her finger! )

I, however, find the number taker unsettling...

kiera · 24/07/2007 20:50

I think its scary ds (3.5) likes it though...

HairyToe · 24/07/2007 22:25

I'm scared of the Numberjacks baddies (particularly the Number Taker)... DD1 loves it - her fav. program (along eith Nina and her freaky Neurons)

handlemecarefully · 24/07/2007 22:34

Nope. They weren't scared by King Kong or Jurassic Park either (3 and 5). I kid you not.

Nettee · 25/07/2007 21:28

DS - 2 - likes numberjacks and in fact most of cbeebies but cries as soon as smarteenies even starts up. I think it is the spinning of the people when they are chosen by the paintbrush. Makes me think twice about leaving him in front of it while I catch up with the house a bit because you can't guess when something scary might come on

spiker · 25/07/2007 21:41

yeah ds1 (3) is scared of it - but then he is a total wus and is scared by half the output of cbeebies. Lazytown - now that really freaks him.

my DS was and is still scared of teletubbies!

Washersaurus · 26/07/2007 15:31

But surely 'step inside' is the scariest programme ever? DS is now 2 and still cries when it comes on; I have to turn the TV off because he finds it so traumatic.

aloha · 26/07/2007 15:40

My five year old is OBSESSED by it (we wake up most mornings to hear him in bed, singing 'the numberjacks are on their way) but is also quite scared, especially by the Spooky Spoon!

aloha · 26/07/2007 15:43

Bea, I'd love to get your ds together with my ds!! While we waited interminably at baggage reclaim on Saturday the children were making friends, and ds asked one baffled little girl, 'what's your favourite bad character on Numberjacks?'
