Does anyone know what the reading that Michael did at the wedding was?

Pixel · 13/04/2015 20:20

Didn't he say it was from Captain Corelli's mandolin?

Captain Corelli's Mandolin by Louis de Bernieres

Love is a temporary madness, it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work out whether your root was so entwined together that it is inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is.
Love is not breathlessness, it is not excitement, it is not the promulgation of promises of eternal passion. That is just being in love, which any fool can do. Love itself is what is left over when being in love has burned away, and this is both an art and a fortunate accident.

Those that truly love have roots that grow towards each other underground, and when all the pretty blossoms have fallen from their branches, they find that they are one tree and not two.

Thanks :)

I lived in Bridgend and they say 'where to...' but worked in Swansea and further West and never heard it there.

I have hated the Luke storyline but the more rubbish storylines were made up for when Rob Morgan came backGrin Grin

TinklyLittleLaugh · 13/04/2015 23:17

I think Ruth Jones is from Porthcawl, so proper posh like. I love Stella actually, it makes ma homesick. My family in the valleys hate it though.

MissBattleaxe · 14/04/2015 14:15

Yes, Ruth Jones is from Porthcawl. I've never heard presh, but maybe it's unique to Stella's character. Also, I have never heard Welsh people call others good boy or good girl when they are angry with some one i.e "Now look here, good boy"

Still, I don't care because it's a lovely cosy drama and it's great to see a drama set in Wales instead of London, the Yorkshire Dales or Cornwall.

Oh Michael Jackson, please say "the kid is not my son"!

BestIsWest · 14/04/2015 18:55

'Now look here good boy' is definitely said around here. I've said it myself Grin.

MissBattleaxe · 15/04/2015 11:29

BestIsWest- I must be in a different part of Wales. I take your word for it. I have heard "where to are you going" and "where to is that then?"

TinklyLittleLaugh · 15/04/2015 14:31

Ok fellow Welshies, a question.

In one episode of Stella, Stella yelled to her family to come down for dinner. The English characters looked faintly embarrassed. I always yell up the stairs to my family and my English children insist that none of their friends' Mums do: they just go up and knock the bedroom door for them bugger that.

So is yelling up the stairs a Welsh thing?

BestIsWest · 15/04/2015 15:06

I am near Swansea missBattleaxe.

MissBattleaxe · 15/04/2015 21:48

Lovely accent down your way BestIsWest, all musical and melodic!

Tinkly- I thought everyone yelled up the stairs? Buggered if I'm going up and knocking the bedroom door like it's fucking room service or something.

RebootYourEngine · 15/04/2015 22:55

Im scottish and i shout up the stairs. Thought that was normal.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 22/04/2015 13:26

Oh, yes - "Look hyere, Good Boy/Girl" is definitely used where I lived, when someone is cross with someone. (Grew up nearer to Swansea, so maybe that's why I never heard the "whereto/whyfor" phrases).

Just watched a 'behind-the-scenes' thing, and it would appear that a lot of my questions from earlier in the thread were answered in a Christmas Special, which I missed, which explains my bewilderment. Confused

I yell at everyone from the kitchen, when meals are ready. Live in SE England now, but you can't take the Welsh out of the girl Grin. Neighbours haven't yet complained - Hee hee

Nice to see Rob Morgan back next week. Have you noticed how much Little Al's girlfriend looks like him. Same teeth and jaw etc. Also Zoe and Luke have exactly the same chins.

Dontbeataroundthebush1 · 06/02/2025 10:34

Just found this thread as been watching it recently, but shouting up the stairs is definitely not just a Welsh thing. 🤣🤣 I do it in england, and everyone I know does it with their families.

Tabbymax · 17/03/2025 10:10

I’ve only started watching Stella this year & was enjoying it until series 4. It has become quite farcical. I’ll stick with it & hope it gets better as I think Ruth Jones is brilliant.
