I struggled to sleep aswell happymumof2 and you should have seen how puffy my eyes were this morning!!

The scenes between Barbara and Nana reminded me so so much of my Mum and late Nana. And when she said she had wished not to go into a home

I miss my nana so much, and I worry what my mum and dad will be like when theyre older, the whole programme just ruined me!!

And the baby thing aswell, most programmes with newborns in make me cry these days

fartmeistergeneral · 30/10/2006 18:34

Love the 'awwww' no matter what has been said.

love Cheryl!

mosschops30 · 30/10/2006 18:42

thought this was pure comedy genius last night, had me laughing and crying all at the same time.

nanna's lines: 'dont do it too curly Barbara last time i looked like jeremy clarkson' and 'they had soup of the day, it was friday' ....classic

fartmeistergeneral · 30/10/2006 18:47

cheryl changing the catheter bag!! Tee hee!

mosschops30 · 30/10/2006 18:48

bleurgh down the sink and then wiping drips with tea-towel

facebovvered · 30/10/2006 18:53

"They had A-la-carte"

"What is a-la-carte Barbara?"

"Dunno, but i'd love a-la-carte, I'm fed up with chops"

But the whole concept was based around family co-dependency and farty intimacy.

Though it was a perfect continuation.

Was still upset thinking about my Grandma this morning.

Caroline Aherne is a National Treasure.

skanger · 30/10/2006 21:00

is the "Royale family"the posher version of The Royal family"-sorry!!

skanger · 30/10/2006 21:01

or royle even

Bomper · 30/10/2006 21:12

When they had the bit when the two boys where doing a show, it made me smile, my dc's and their cousins are always doing that, dh said 'Why are we watching this? It's like being round your mum's on a Sunday afternoon!!'

ssd · 31/10/2006 12:55

so what happened with nana?
did she go into a home?
missed it

Bugsy2 · 31/10/2006 12:59

ok, brace yourself ssd: Nana died. It was really sad & funny all at once.

harrogatemum · 31/10/2006 13:00

ssd - she died in the end.

I taped it hoping for a laugh and ended up weeping buckets - luckily had a friend staying with me.

ssd · 01/11/2006 12:55

did she need to go into a home or did she stay with Barbara?

if she stayed where was she, eg.was there room?!?

WelshBorisSaysFawkeOff · 01/11/2006 12:56

She stayed with Barbara til the end

In the living room!!

Was touching and funny

ssd · 01/11/2006 12:58

only asked as I read somewhere nana was saying she didn't want to go into a home, was that a really sad bit?

bundle · 01/11/2006 12:58

I have loved The Royle Family for years but was very, very disappointed by the trite and sentimental episode on Sunday

ssd · 01/11/2006 13:04

still really wished I'd seen it.

TwoIfBySea · 01/11/2006 23:31

I didn't find it overly sentimental at all, just very poignant. I also thought the programme afterwards quite funny with celebs giving their opinion on the Royales.

I suppose maybe it is for people north of the Watford gap including us here in Scotland who can relate better to those circumstances and those kinds of people. The humour is subtle enough to be missed.

bundle · 02/11/2006 10:49

I'm from well north of Watford gap and found the original Royle Family stuff very poignant and funny. But I think they missed a trick - the strengths were based on the static nature of the living room setting and there was too much flitting about, but in a sort of rigid "oh we've tried this before, let's do it again" kind of way (the laminate flooring bum wiggling dance springs to mind) when it's the subtler stuff which has made it stand apart from other dramas in the past. also it used to be much more about what wasn't said as much as what was, and nana's speech was a bit heavy handed.
