Scary cougar Northern/New York lady.

I actually turned to DP & said 'I'm glad I have a family'

But y'know, it's their money to do with what they will. I expect they tip generously

Only1scoop · 06/01/2015 22:19

Found it sad when the woman who had inherited was describing how the guests didn't show interest in her.... but her partner as they thought he was loaded....

Why would she pay to holiday with them!!

By the way it was 30 grand a night not a week Shock

The accountant sounded like she'd be up for anything they suggested.

Agree, not my idea of paradise. It seemed a bit seedy really. RB came over as some old perv, yuk!

Sizzlesthedog · 06/01/2015 22:30

Wasn't the head of finance living there with her child and partner?

Seriously creepy.

I thought Branson lived on a private island. Had no idea it was a resort, and really he is also a guest on it.

If I had inheritance to afford 30 thousand a night!!! I think I'd buy a bigger house and have a few luxuries.

Sparklingbrook · 06/01/2015 22:32

I thought the Brummies were slumming it in a £16000 a week room or something?

bambinibop · 06/01/2015 22:35

Yes there's was a cheaper room as the didn't hire the whole resort between August and October you can just hire one room at cheaper cost. I thought it was 30 k for the week though sparkling

Sparklingbrook · 06/01/2015 22:37

You may be right bambini I just caught that they weren't paying full whack so may have misheard.

Only1scoop · 06/01/2015 22:37

220 000 for the week

And that's when other guests are present.

Notsuretoday · 06/01/2015 22:50

Fab programme to watch because I don't feel the least bit envious! My idea of hell!

BumpAndGrind · 06/01/2015 22:56

It's £40k a night to hire exclusive use of the island for up to 30 people all inclusive.

£30k a week for just a room all inclusive but sharing the island with random people also hiring just rooms.

The prices were stated in the program.

Echocave · 06/01/2015 22:58

You've all said exactly what I said to DH. It looked so sleazy. I get that Patch's partner (I didn't get her name) likes the place but why on earth would you keep returning to somewhere where the other guests look down on you?
I particularly disliked the accountant and her sushi story. She said at the end with a giggle 'I mean who else gets to do that as part of their job?'. One answer sprang to mind immediately....
R Branson is a notorious womanising sleaze bag. I met his daughter once though and she was really lovely.

nooddsocksforme · 06/01/2015 22:59

Agree doesnt make me feel jealous, actually looks boring. googled it-can be as "low "as £17000 per couple all inclusive for a week. would rather fly business class to somewhere properly classy in oz/far east. not sure its a place i would feel comfortable allowing all the middle class flab hang out in.

Rivercam · 06/01/2015 23:00

The island was smaller than I expected. I quite liked it, u till they emphasised the partying. My dh actually said that he doesn't fancy going now...as if we had the money![grin{

BumpAndGrind · 06/01/2015 23:02

It makes it just over 1.3k pppn if 30 people go exclusive

Just over 2.1k pppn if 2 people hire a room for a week.

It's cheaper to get a shed load of mates and hire exclusively.

BuzzardBird · 06/01/2015 23:11

That was a Stourbridge accent I think, not Brummay!

TheSpottedZebra · 06/01/2015 23:19

There's a thread! Why didn't I see this when the prog was on? Sad
It was sordid, wasn't it?

I take it that shagging the boss is part of the PAs' job description?

BuzzardBird · 06/01/2015 23:41

It was vile, the pimping out of staff and forced partying. I always said I would go when I could afford it, I wouldn't now.

Sizzlesthedog · 07/01/2015 08:03

Yes, I felt the two PA's had to shag the boss as part of the job. Especially the one who was one of his ex cabin crew. Yuck.

A very grubby program.

I'm sure a lot of it was down to editing, but it really didn't put it in a good light. The Birmingham couple seemed the most normal, and didn't seem to be involved with the party times.

I thought the housekeepers could probably tell a tale or two. They didn't seem that happy.

southeastastra · 07/01/2015 08:06

bizarre that 'most' of twitter' loved it

OP posts:
squoosh · 07/01/2015 11:17

Enforced participation in disco nights does not scream 'exclusive luxe holiday' to me! It was just a fancy version of an 18-30 holiday.

As for the Head of Finance coyly giggling about having guests eat sushi from her body. Ick!

(I did fancy the Spanish water sports instructor though)

RumbelowSale · 07/01/2015 11:40

We're those golf balls really made out of fish food?

If so, that was the best bit about the programme. The rest, well, you've all said it.Does RB no favours at all.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 07/01/2015 13:00

I've seen very mixed comments on Twitter. Some liking the beauty of the location but lots saying exactly the same as this thread.
DH and I watched it together and very soon came to the conclusion that the whole set up was sordid.

We've had very expensive luxury holidays in the past, not looking to repeat them any time soon, but if we were, wouldn't look twice at an arrangement like that. There are so many gorgeous locations where professional staff cater for every whim without the unpleasant and unsubtle undertones and at a lower cost too.

I felt sorry for the domestic employees. I bet they have some pretty demanding situations to deal with and most of them seemed unimpressed but obviously need the jobs.
I felt sorry too for the Midlands couple, even though they seemed happy enough, if less happy then they were originally, with their arrangements and I'm sure they wouldn't want my opinion anyway. But who the hell wants to be stuck in the company of people who ignore you unless they think you're worth something? All the familiar greetings from the staff brought out the cynic in me, it seemed so fake.

Did anyone else clock the conversation where Richard Branson talked about the staff getting his wife wrecked at lunchtime, so she jumped on him and that it 'didn't happen very often' so they'd have to take her out more often?
If he didn't have all the cash he'd be no more than a Gerald Kingsland type, bearded, clothes averse and and craving young company in a no rules environment.
