We've been looking forward to this new series for a-a-ages - and we thought some of you might have been too, what with it being written by the fabulous Kay Mellor (Fat Friends, the Syndicate and other goodies), and - most importantly - what with it centring on a group of women who meet at an antenatal class. So we've started a thread for anyone who cares to join in - do grab a chair if so.

PS. It would be remiss of us not to remind those of you who are currently actually attending antenatal classes that Bumpfest - our inaugural event about everything birth- and baby-related - will take place on September 27th. Find out more here, if you've an infant in the offing - and let your pregnant friends know if you've already been there, done that.

I will, I'm stuck in hospital again and need a good diversion.

Pointlessfan · 05/08/2014 18:36

Yes planning to watch it. I read a novel along similar lines whilst pregnant - wondering if the series is based on it.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 05/08/2014 18:41

Heard Kay Mellor on the radio the other day talking about this. Thanks for the reminder!

I will be watching - although I bet the antenatal classes are better than my real-life experiences where we had two two-hour sessions with over 20 people in the class and we weren't allowed to talk about interventions or c-sections, but had time to do a "fun" game of "guess how long it will be before you expect / want to have sex again", in a dads v mums format.

susiedaisy · 05/08/2014 18:52

Got it on series link. Looking forward to it.

Howaboutthisone · 05/08/2014 19:09

Series linked it here too Smile

Iamblossom · 05/08/2014 19:10

Is it the first one tonight? Have I missed any?

Southeastdweller · 05/08/2014 19:23

Looking forward to this. Could you ask Kay to come on for webchat please?

Wishfulmakeupping · 05/08/2014 19:24

Have series linked it on sky-plus :) will looking forward to watching it on my day off with a nice cuppa and lots of biscuits :)

FlipFlopWaddle · 05/08/2014 21:36

I'm watching but not finding it very plausible Grin

I'm no mw but surely a Doppler or examination would find twins? And it was far too easy to rob that bank (again, I'm no expert Grin)

AnneEyhtMeyer · 05/08/2014 21:44

MN seems to be having its usual 9pm issues with Bad Gateways.

This programme is cliche-tastic so far - pregnant teen, lesbian couple, woman with toy-boy, miraculous-pregnancy-with-twins-after-adoption. Seems watchable though.

PittTheYounger · 05/08/2014 21:45

again? another thread

what is Mumsnet's interest in this show?!

EvilHerbivore · 05/08/2014 23:07

I'm watching although cringing and crossing my legs at the labour scene despite having done it twice

Agree it does seem a teeny bit clichéd in some of the set-ups, hope that's just scene setting although some of it also got a bit unbelievable

Solo · 06/08/2014 01:34

I watched it.

MrsHerculePoirot · 06/08/2014 08:51

Loved it! Of course it is cliched and unbelievable all together but the sort of thing I love watching - the comments in the class about intense pressure and pain made me giggle.

Groovee · 06/08/2014 09:25

I really enjoyed it.

Blueuggboots · 06/08/2014 09:53

Was a bit far fetched but enjoyable.

showtunesgirl · 06/08/2014 10:43

My friend is in this! Grin

Sleepyhoglet · 06/08/2014 11:40

Makes pregnancy seem bloody awful! And as someone who is 25 weeks it really isn't that bad

showtunesgirl · 06/08/2014 11:56

Depends on each pregnancy surely? Some people DO have an awful time.

Sleepyhoglet · 06/08/2014 12:45

Yes that is true but they all seems to be having a bad time and pregnancy not helping the situation.

Sleepyhoglet · 06/08/2014 12:46

I suppose I meant that redundancy, divorce etc don't need to be part if pregnancy. No one seems to be excited or enjoying their pregnancy and impending births.

showtunesgirl · 06/08/2014 14:20

Would you really watch an entire drama where everyone was having happy pregnancies and nothing dramatic happened?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 06/08/2014 21:25

I've been thinking about this today and the problem I have with it is that not only is it full of cliches but they have used actors who are very heavily stereotyped to certain roles too, which just makes it even more obvious to guess what is going to happen.

For example, before I had even started watching the show I knew that Will Mellor would be playing a hapless unemployed person who would make stupid decisions and that Hermione Norris would be playing a posh woman dissatisfied with her life.

However, as someone else commented above, there was one huge surprise - that Gaynor Faye wasn't in it.

lovelychops · 07/08/2014 07:54

I don't get why Kay Mellor is as successful as she is. It's pretty cliched and lazy writing. I can't imagine seeing anything in the series that hadn't been done many times before.
All the characters are obvious stereotypes and as someone wisely said up thread, it's predictable what the characters will be like based on the actors playing them.
I really like hermionie Norris but she seems typecast. I spent most of the episode saying, ooo what else have they been in?
Reckon it will be popular in a nothing-else-is-on and it's easy to watch way. But forgettable and nothing new.
At least gaynor Faye isn't in it, although she still may do!

scarlettsmummy2 · 07/08/2014 07:59

I really enjoyed it. Good light hearted drama but probably not going to win any awards.
