Dangerous dog owners & proud

On ch5 at the moment. It has begun with people who own illegal/banned dogs. If the dog is illegal why are they showing it off on tv. Surely they would be worried about it getting taken away.

I know people with pitbulls, and they're lovely dogs however in the wrong hands they're dangerous. Irresponsible people give them bad names, I've got 2 dogs that people think are aggressive because of the media stereotyping their breedHmm
Any dog can be aggressive but this show just proved it's the owner not the breed

I have had whippets, staffs and jack Russels and I agree it's down the how the owner rears them.

But u stand by what I say about Pitt bulls, they are bred to fight and to kill.

Any dog is capable of biting, so should all dogs b put down?

No, but you have to appreciate that some breeds aren't really suitable for rough, unsupervised play with children. You just have to read the comments beneath articles like these to see that there are some people that stop seeing their pets as animals and imbue them with sensibilities they don't have. Yeah, it's cute now, but when that kid's a toddler that dog will be like one of the ones on that show with the locking jaw muscles dangling off a tree. It may not be your child, it could be one of their friends playing chase and the dog goes into defence mode. Why take the risk?

The same risks apply to all breeds, obviously- remember that Jack Russell who killed the newborn last year? Pit bulls, however, have the potential to do so much more damage, because of their physical attributes. Some owners go too far in defending breeds like these and suggest that they aren't in the slightest bit dangerous when in fact all dogs have the potential to turn.

I thought the female who got hers legalised seemed the most sensible out the lot. Sympathised with her when the loose dog ran over (when hers had muzzles on)
I was walking a dog last week, double leaded with lead to collar and lead to harness plus a high viz jacket with lettering on. People still letting loose dogs run up, and ignoring all requests to pull their dog away - why?!

Goodasitgets because some people are stupid, when both of mine are muzzled and on a lead people don't stop their dogs from running up and winding them up then wonder why my dogs react Hmm

During safeguarding training at work recently we were told that people were increasingly using their dogs to abuse/ attack children. They wind the dog up to such an extent that the child gets bitten. If the worst happens and the child gets taken to hospital the dog cannot say what has happened, the dog gets pts and the owner gets another one. In their twisted minds it is the perfect way to abuse and terrorise young kids, they care for neither child nor dog. Evil people.

It really annoys me. They aren't dangerous dogs, they've just been owned by dangerous and irresponsible people.

I had a pitt bull. The thing was so soft it used to wee with excitement.

Report
OorWullie · 06/08/2014 02:14

I don't think anyone is denying that Pit Bulls can be soft and good natured, but at the hands of owners like the twits on that programme they are dangerous. Bred and trained to be agressive and with dangerous physical attributes which give them the potential to be generally more harmful than other legal breeds of dog.

It's also unfair on the dogs, owners get their hands on an illegal breed, the authorities get involved and the poor dog is "destroyed".

There need to be far stricter penalties and rules in place where this is concerned, to protect people and dogs.

My neighbour has a red nosed pitt, it's illegal and he told me himself its from an unlicensed breeder so they tell people it's not pure. several people in the street have reported it after witnessing that the owners have no control over it, it behaves viciously towards other dogs, and is never, ever exercised. The police have done nothing.

Agreed whole heartedly oor. The same thing will happen with staffs now though I think, well it's already happening, but I bet they'd get banned if it was feasible.

Boxers were once classed as 'dangerous dogs'. Thing is, all dogs can be dangerous, but incidents happen because they're in the hands of idiots.

jadeymariejones · 06/08/2014 02:47

But don't these stupid tv producers see what ther doing ther making idiots want a so called status dog I can't even get on public transport to take my pitbull to the vets with out gasps n people talking among themselves my dog weres a muzzle in public so isn't as if he's going to attack every one on the bus

Report
OorWullie · 06/08/2014 11:36

These people don't know you, or your dog from Adam though jade. They have no idea that your dog is good natured and gentle, and (rightly or wrongly) may assume that it has a muzzle because it needs one.

Surely, when you choose an illegal breed of dog which has a reputation for being dangerous, you cannot blame people for being wary?

Muzzle or not, I wouldn't let my four year old anywhere near an unknown Pit Bull, or any other dog I didn't knoe.

why do people even own illegal dogs? Surely if they're illegal then that's it.

Report
jadeymariejones · 06/08/2014 12:30

No because unlike some people I actually rescued my dog from a rescue centre when he was 9 weeks old as a staffordshire bull terrier so no I didn't go looking for a pitbull thanks n I'm not a immature or unresponsible dog owner when he got to 1 people was saying he looked like a pitbull so I rang the police my self n I wasn't just gona let him get put to sleep because of the breed...... yea I now people don't like them I'm not saying come n let us 4 year old come n stroke him but unfortunately for some my dog is now legal so all u haters get over it thers nothing you can do he's got as much right to get on the bus as me n u

Is your pittbull legal?

I don't understand why they allow any legal pittbull at all if the law states they are illegal and dangerous dogs.

It's ridiculous.

My first post on mumsnet. My o/h recorded this programme for me thinking I'd like to watch it (being a massive dog lover) absolutely sickening. Really think channel 5 have sunk low this time. Everyone knows they're out there but to let these people glorify what they are doing, on tv is disgusting.
