my cousin has a fruit and veg free house

she is horrified when i give her ds's grapes "oh they will never eat those"

they reach for them, then hear their mother say that, then its like they have been told they dont like them

never even tried grapes or any fruit

Piffle · 14/09/2006 12:15

life without stone fruits is no life at all

themoon66 · 14/09/2006 12:17

And the plums are so perfect at the moment. In season and local. What could be better?

suejoneziscalmernow · 14/09/2006 12:17

chocolate cake?

expatinscotland · 14/09/2006 12:17

Oh, I can think of lots of things better than plums.

They're yucky, even when 'perfect'.

CheesyFeet · 14/09/2006 12:19

I am eating my bodyweight in plums/nectarines/peaches atm - I love them so much and they are so cheap.

Imagine being 29 (or whatever she was) and never having eaten a plum

at the house

nailpolish · 14/09/2006 12:20

i have to say, sainsburys curly fries ROCK

aitch71 · 14/09/2006 12:23

actually, i've just realised that i am getting mixed up with nectarines and tangerines, AGAIN. how can this happen? it's a little fruity blind spot i have. so my answer was really about tangerines however i note that it works for nectarines as well. (apart from the bit about DH sampling).
it's the shinyness of the plum and nectarine, and the way they scrape your teeth before you get to the (inevitably disappointing) fruit. Now peaches on the other hand... i consider the day wasted if i haven't had at least two peaches. dd's favourite fruit, too, probably because i ate them by the bucketload when i was pregnant.
so, any takers on the tasteless, overly soft, thick-skinned tangerine then?
suejonez may i join your support group? expat, you in?

nailpolish · 14/09/2006 12:24

oranges are far superior to tangerines

a bugger to peel but worht it

expatinscotland · 14/09/2006 12:26

I'm in.

I truly detest plums and nectarines. Even when firm, the skin just grosses me out.

I don't even like them sliced.

suejoneziscalmernow · 14/09/2006 12:27

I also don't have the same problem with peaches (no shiny skin) but will only eat tangerines and oranges if every last little bit of stringy white stuff is peeled off. And frankly they're just not worth the 30 mins it takes...

OK aitch, fruit-phobics anonymous it is then.

suejoneziscalmernow · 14/09/2006 12:28

I feel like I've come home! Never publically outed myself before... oh the relief

expatinscotland · 14/09/2006 12:29

I like peaches fine.

But yes, the shiny skin has a vom-like quality.

Also, I find plums just taste rank.

themoon66 · 14/09/2006 12:30

I'm a fruit-aholic I think. Every day I eat 3 satsumas, one pear, one banana and either one peach, nectarine or handful of plums. Plus seedless grapes whenever I can. I'm probably consuming vast amounts of sugar with that lot, which cannot be very good for me.

themoon66 · 14/09/2006 12:30

And Strawberries..... can eat a whole box to myself.

Piffle · 14/09/2006 12:31

I find plums a let down as well.
In NZ we had several plum trees when we were growing up and had access to the queen of plums, the black doris
I've never tasted a plum coming close to them since I left in 97. So now I do not bother
Nectarines and peaches are hit and miss. I get really hacked off when the inside is all wooly and nasty.

themoon66 · 14/09/2006 12:32

Someone at work said to me 'we always know when you are in the office, without having to even look... we can smell satsumas being peeled'.

Enid · 14/09/2006 12:33

is this that screeching harridan who is a poo obsessive 'christ your shit STINKS' I hear her crow

Is our shit not allowed to be stinky now? Is that the next thing that has to have a makeover?

I don't watch that show but honestly if someone eats crap like that all day can't we just leave them to get on with it and kill themselves early, its called natural selection

Enid · 14/09/2006 12:33

themoon66 - that means you get on their nerves with yer constant satsuma eating

Piffle · 14/09/2006 12:33

Nice to see you back Enid

suejoneziscalmernow · 14/09/2006 12:33

themoon - if you want to cut down on fruit sugars the rule of thumb is stick to fruit grown in this country. Ditch your fancy grapes and stick to cherries and apricots, out with melons in with apples.

themoon66 · 14/09/2006 12:35

I must admit, I don't really understand why they have to make such a public fuss over the poo. I really wish they would just edit that bit out. Although last series I seem to remember they actually filmed the subject having a colonic irrigation and we had to watch the poo slipping down see through tubes. At least on this series we have moved to Gillian merely screeching about it.

Enid · 14/09/2006 12:35
Grin
themoon66 · 14/09/2006 12:36

I don't care Enid. They get on my nerves with their constant crisp crunching and disappearing for 10 mins every hour for another smoking break.

bunny75 · 14/09/2006 12:56

peaches are ok if someone has removed the skin first....that awful fuzzyness against the teeth...aaaaarrrggghhhhh
