Claire's storyline in Coronation Street

Has anyone been watching this? Last night's episode Claire left her baby at the hospital saying she thought she had been given the wrong baby and then Ashley turned up and they gave the baby back to him. Surely this is wrong? She obviously has PND and her baby is at risk.

It just reminds me of that horribly sad case in America where that women killed all five of her children - she was suffering from PND which had caused psychosis. How tragic

I don't know what would be correct in rl but in Corrie Social Services are coming out aren't they? I got quite teary when Ashley got the baby back, must be my pregnancy hormones!

Hi

Stumbled across this as I too watch Corrie and found the storyline quite upsetting but what is more upsetting is finding ignorant comments such as "she obviously has PND and her baby is at risk" what rubbish Suffering from PND or rather PNI does not mean that your baby is at risk. What annoys me is the small minded people that automatically think this. Most PNI suffers are scared to admit they feel so low incase they are mistaken for harming their children when in fact in most cases they are brilliant mums but they do not realise it. It takes alot for a mum to admit they are struggling but when they go for help it is primarily to ensure their child is not affected. Comments like this posted on a website used by all mums can send PNI suffers over the edge as you are enforcing the stereotypical comments. Please think carefully before you post such comment in the future.

Yes I have PNI and NO my baby is not at risk!

I think the op was just specifically about Claire's particular situation and not PND sufferers in general. I suffered from PND with dd1, and my symptoms were focussed on myself, and my imagined inadequaces (SP?) at being a mum, but I suppose every case is different. I do feel it is a shame though that Corrie seem to be going down that particular route.
