Watched this with dd aged 9 last night and a bit of tonight. Some of those kids are unbelievable, even allowing for playing up to the camera and crap editing.

My dd is horrified at how much fuss them make about things (which is rich comming from Uk's finest drama queen)

robinpud · 06/09/2006 19:08

The child ringing mum to come and fill up her fridge...

Is this on bbc1 or just digital? My kids want to watch it but we just have 'normal telly'!!

oxocube I saw it today on BBC1 - I think around 5pm

nikkie · 06/09/2006 21:31

Dd1 asked to watch it but she didn't like the kids being upset over missing their Mammys.

Blondilocks · 06/09/2006 21:38

DD is fascinated with this programme.

Posey · 06/09/2006 21:40

Dd (9) and I love this programme. Even taped yesterday's as we were out, and we never tape stuff. She was comparing the kids to people she knows!
I asked her if she would have liked to do it and she said yes.

kipper22 · 07/09/2006 13:52

I've been taping this too - can't even blame DS as he's only 13 months! Just find this kind of thing really interesting. Admittedly, I've been screaming at the telly when the parents DO go and fill up the fridge, pay the mobile bill, etc!

oxocube · 07/09/2006 16:06

thanks crumpet. Will look out for it!

Orlando · 07/09/2006 16:11

My girls are loving this-- am I right in thinking it's the first 'reality tv' programme featuring kids? From that point of view I have a number of reservations, and would NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS have put my own children up for it. (Will that poor boy who pooed in the chamber pot on the first night ever, ever live that down?) However, as far as learning history goes have to admit it's a Good Thing.

Think Mrs Rivett is awful though. Very miscast.

vino · 07/09/2006 18:22

My kids love this too. Were slightly horrifired at chicken killing bit though.

oxocube · 07/09/2006 19:38

watched this tonight - loved it. dd (8) wanted to be on the programme. She would have no problem with the plucking - had a fab time threading ragworms onto a hook this summer when fishing [gross emoticon]

ScummyMummy · 13/09/2006 17:59

My boys and I love Richard on this programme. What a lovely, quirky, funny, sweet lad. In fact, we've decided that should he ever need a new family we will be it! Lots of nice kids actually but Richard is the best one of all.

ScummyMummy · 14/09/2006 18:00

ok- we want to adopt Richard, Charlie, Tia, Josh, Laura and Chelsea. What lovely kids. The rest weren't too bad either.

Marina · 14/09/2006 18:03

Who was the cute one with all the hair and the massive bogey in church problem? Thought it was rather sweet he just agreed to having it all chopped off after taking so long to grow it.
We are fascinated by this too in our house. I am eyeing up the retro knitwear and ds is rolling around mock-barfing at nettle soup and cod liver oil. Dd, 3, says she prefers Tracy Beaker.
I think they have done a smashing job on this programme, really thought-provoking

ScummyMummy · 14/09/2006 18:21

Oh yes. Felix was ok too! Forgot about him. Very charming cheeky face and lovely big brown eyes. I agree- I'm desperate to deck the boys out in retro knitwear. J seems less than keen but D has just said that he would like "one like Richard's- the vest one." Result!

KateF · 14/09/2006 18:22

dd1 (nearly 7) is fascinated by this and has learned a surprising amount of history. She has even switched over from Lizzie Maguire for it!!!!

Marina · 14/09/2006 18:23

I do take commissions you know Scummy. Ds' authentic Just William hairy slipover for World Book Day attracted a lot of comment at school.
Vogue Book of Knitting has some priceless children's patterns from the 40s. Woolly shorts FGS

moljam · 14/09/2006 18:24

mil said its rubbish and wrong not true of how it was.i love felix

ScummyMummy · 14/09/2006 18:27

You take commissions? Now we're talking! One tank top exactly like Richard's to fit a 7.5 year old, please. How much do you charge?

Marina · 14/09/2006 18:31

To you, fellow toiler at the chalk-face of public sector drudgery, cost of wool only. Will have to liaise re precise styling, off-board I think.
Can supply hairy pants for the refusenik also...

Blandmum · 14/09/2006 18:34

My dad's family had an evacuee.

My dad was in the Rhondda, the evacuee was from the east end of london, and a super sharp cookie.

My dad always used to say that Sid could leave for school with a comic and trade up through the day and come home with a pair of roller skates!

One evacuee was asked where are you going and the kid looks at his tag and said 'why nis wobble'. He was going to Ynysybwl

Different world , how gut wrenching it must have been

KathyMCMLXXII · 14/09/2006 18:40

Great story MB.

Programme sounds absolutely fantastic - I am gutted I have missed it so far. Maybe I can watch it online?

ScummyMummy · 14/09/2006 18:51

J is horrified at the thought of hairy pants, Marina! If you have spare time and energy i really would like to take you up on the tank top! I will try emailing you but have had very little luck in recent past- did you get my one (replying to yours) asking for your home address? Still have a card for you wishing you well with your op! Glad to say it's massively redundant now seeing as you sailed through so well.

um how do you pronounce Ynysybwl, mb?
