Yes, I know, I'm behind the curve, but I've only just caught up on this and now I need to talk about it!

In the last episode:

  • was it believable that he slept with the bereaved mother? I think so but RL friends are more sceptical. I think they recognised lonely, guilty, sad kindred spirits in one another.
  • was it believable that his colleagues (young guy in glasses and his second-in-command – sorry, can't remember names) seemed to KNOW when he got back that he'd slept with her? I find this hard to buy. Isn't he always going off on investigations on his own?

In the series as a whole:
How hot is Tom Mathias? I thought 'not at all' at first, but have acquired quite the taste for him now. Nice arse.

Ha! My first thought when he kissed the victim's mother was 'that is NOT professional! ' but the actual sex scene was just really sad and sort of made sense.

I didn't think the train chap looked old enough to be the victim's dad?!

Really enjoyed the series, looking forward to the next one and finding out a bit more about his past

I had high hopes for this, thinking it looked like a homegrown version of Scandi-noir. I was a bit disappointed though- I just couldn't take the main actor terribly seriously, with his puppy dog eyes and constant baleful expression. I was almost waiting for Armstrong and Miller to appear with a punchline.

OnlyLovers · 24/05/2014 12:53

quine, I hadn't thought about that but it's a good point. Behind the beard he actually looked quite youthful.

But I repeat my question: was it believable that his colleagues knew when he got back that he'd slept with the mother? Was it to show that gossip spreads fast in that area? Or did he just look guilty?

He always looked guilty, permanently woeful expression, like a labrador! I think there was so much left unsaid but implied about him/his past (photo of children, left the Met, etc) that he might have had form for shagging around?! Mared is a detective too after all. I actually thought the characterisation of the police was great, often in these things everything is just so obvious. Also loved the music.

OnlyLovers · 25/05/2014 14:02

Yes, maybe he does have previous Grin. Good point about her also being a detective.

I liked the music too, and the opening credits.

I thought it was off he slept with the bereaved mother. Did he know her already ??

ComeHeather · 25/05/2014 23:35

Mared knew he'd slept with her beaches she's a great detective and she knows her boss and her local community. Great sex scene...really sad and poignant.

Great series, fab scenery and love the welsh language bits.

ComeHeather · 25/05/2014 23:36

Because not beaches, sorry.

OnlyLovers · 26/05/2014 11:13

susie, no, he didn't know her. Think they were both vulnerable, lonely, feeling grief and guilt, and just reached out to one another.

Ah I see thank you.

And I meant odd not offBlush

OnlyLovers · 26/05/2014 13:08

'off' would have made sense as well, though. Grin

Can't wait for the next series.

been watching this with dh, quite good although i found it very similar to shetland. main character certainly likes his clothing tight fitting!

OnlyLovers · 27/05/2014 12:13

Oh, I thought it was quite different to Shetland, although they both have beautiful scenery. I find Shetland pretty 'cosy' and this less so, although it's still not as 'tough' as the Nordic dramas it seems to be inspired by.

Yes, he does enjoy his skinny jeans doesn't he and I don't half enjoy them in turn Grin.

Does anyone else think he might also have slept with the wife in the last but one episode? Her husband killed the man in the gravel pit, and right in the last scene Matthias turned up in her garden and they had shared
a 'look' about them.

Perhaps he has extreme empathy and has to sleep with unhappy women.

OnlyLovers · 27/05/2014 16:14

I don't remember that scene or the woman, bettys ...

It was an odd moment right at the end of the episode. It wasn't clear why he had gone there…will go see if it's still on iPlayer
