Channel 4 Wednesdays 23 and 30 August at 9pm

Each year in September many parents embark on a hugely stressful journey to get their kids into the school of their choice. Around half a million primary leavers need to be allocated a secondary school place and all over the country there is a battle being fought for spots at the most oversubscribed schools. Admission Impossible follows the stories of six families from across the country as they navigate their way through the admissions system, striving to secure the perfect place for their child.

In Surrey determined businessman Mr Shah is rigorously preparing his son Mehdin for a series of grammar and private school examinations. With private tutoring and parental expectation, the pressure is on Mehdin to score highly in the exams for the top six schools in the area. In Bradford, Helen Troman and Hannah Weston are competing against hundreds of other children for a place at highly regarded city academy Dixons. Meanwhile Eileen Stockley, a single mum from Norfolk, is desperately trying to move her gifted son Alex from his state primary to a private prep school, but with a very low income her chances are slim.

Is it just me? It is my duty to sort this stuff out long before DD1 gets to this age. That's how I feel.

TBH, it's severely depressing me just now. Time's making an utter arse outta me. But so far, it's on my side, so I need to get OUT of my comfort zone NOW and do what is right by her.

Why is this left till the last minute and then it's a big palaver?

Why do so many play the victim?

Get a clue! Life's rough. Deal w/it NOW or pay later.

Sports boy was completely unfit! I can't believe his parents would put him through that.

Expatinscotland, like I said, pupil placement

What is pupil placement?

The way I see it, we have two choices, right here, right now. Number one is to move on. That's it. Can't afford it here, obviously others can. Such is life.

The other is to learn Gaelic. Learn Gaelic for free off the council and everyone wins - she goes to the top secondary school automatically AND gets to learn an integral part of her heritage and be a part of that. We enrich ourselves and our family life and become a part of this community.

But I don't expect someone to bail me out of the situation I created - with the jobs I chose, which affected where I lived w/my kids, and make them pay for my mistakes w/loads of pressure, or lie to get out of it, or pretend to be a certain religion.

That's the part I don't get, AND which makes me sad, b/c basically, I have to chose all I do in my job based on how it will impact where my kids will go to school.

BUT, this again, is life.

expatinscotland · 30/08/2006 21:57

Eileen's sense of entitlement truly blows my mind, especially as her daughter is NOWHERE in sight!

'Gimme money. Gimme money.' Gimme, gimme, gimmee.

Could have used the money going into London on school fees.
