Starts Thursday night on Lifetime with Heather Graham as evil mother. Think maybe dh isn't going to be interested in watching this somehow!

I endured it for a while but heather grahams an awful actress! no remorse at all when her husband died. no emotion at all in her face. she was distraught in the book.

and Ellen Burnstyn as the gran? no, not to me.

also theyre all meant to be blonde!

I switched off as soon as I saw the gran.

should I give it another go if they show it again?

MissBattleaxe · 18/04/2014 18:34

I watched with interest. It's a better version than the crappy 80s one with Victoria Tennant, and I agree that Heather Graham isn't great in it, but I'm still pleased they had a crack at it! I'm amazed more versions haven't been made considering how many copies the books sold.

palmflower · 19/04/2014 00:05

I'm also surprised there hasn't been a decent version made. I know the books were a bit bonkers but it could make a very good film. I'd make it a dark, slightly gothic horror style

This version is just mediocre (I watched it back in Jan/Feb). And not the best casting. Plus, the thing the author harped on about constantly was Cathy's hair, and how it was a thing of beauty, being lustrous and long and golden. The person playing Cathy has hair quite the opposite, and badly in need of that cut (Chris must have thought) or a deep condition!

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/04/2014 09:56

Also in the book I imagined the Grandmother to be terrifying, I mean truly awful, this one didn't quite nail it imo.

MissBattleaxe · 19/04/2014 10:40

Cathy and Chris weren't how I imagined in the book and I imagined Corrine to be more of a glacial beauty, but there you go.

They changed the escape scenes quite a bit. In fact they changed a lot of things, but it wasn't bad. I would love for someone to make Petals on the Wind. It would be quite mini series-ish with the locations, melodrama and scene changes etc.

MakeMineAMartina · 19/04/2014 17:17

yes, mini series like the ones they used to do in the 70's/80's like Roots, North and South etc etc.

that would be good.

agree about Corrine as more a glacial beauty.

did like the outside of Foxworth hall though, was less scary than the book!

muddleup · 19/04/2014 21:27

Petals in The wind is being shown in the States on the 26th May, not sure when it will be shown here.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 21/04/2014 20:19

How did they escape in the book? I've re read it in the last couple of years and still can't rememberHmm

SilveryMary · 22/04/2014 01:02

They wake very early, and just walk out of the house, after opening their door with the home made key (made from an impression of their mother's key). There is nobody there to try and stop them and no fence or dogs as I think the latest TV offering depicts.

They think they see the grandmother looking out of their window from the distance after they left. Much earlier than she would usually go up to their attic room with breakfast

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/04/2014 11:27

Ah yes, I thought the fence was a new addition.

SilveryMary · 22/04/2014 11:33

It's been more than 20 years since I read it. I can't remember what the significance of the grandmother going to their room early. I think they briefly considered that she heard them leave and didn't send anyone after them or try to prevent them, but then decide it was probably just one of her attempts to try and catch them doing something wrong out by appearing when not expected in their room?

MakeMineAMartina · 23/04/2014 17:23

I'm just watching it. I think it must have been repeated recently. Heather Graham can't act, can she?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/07/2014 23:27

When will the second post be on?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/07/2014 23:27
