Just had a reply from my complaint :
Thank you for contacting us regarding ‘Two Doors Down’, broadcast on 31 December 2013.
We understand you were unhappy with the content of this programme as you felt it was inappropriate and offensive.
Your concerns were raised with the production team, who have responded as follows:
“We note you were offended by a sequence in ‘Two Doors Down’. It was not our intention to cause offence or upset, but we would contend it was an adult comedy drama which was shown after the watershed.
The show featured behaviour that was exaggerated for comedic effect which we hoped was also close enough to real life to strike a dramatic chord with viewers. From the father at pains to show he understands his gay son by uttering insensitive cliché after cliché about “gay life”, to the man eager to tell misogynistic jokes as soon as the women leave the room. The film shows us snapshots of the older adults, emboldened by drink, not quite getting how to behave. The character of Caroline in particular behaves increasingly appallingly throughout the film, at one point making a pointed remark about another woman's inability to conceive. It is clear that she is not a sympathetic character.
The scene in the bathroom makes it clear that Caroline only sits on top of the man’s kilt - she may pull his underpants down but she doesn’t pull his kilt up. Her behaviour is shown as pathetic, demeaning and absurd – to our mind, de-glamourising unwanted sexual contact.”
In the meantime, we’d like to assure you that we’ve also registered your concerns on our audience log. This is a daily report of audience feedback that's made available to many BBC staff, including members of the BBC Executive Board, the ‘Two Doors Down’ team and other senior managers.
The audience logs are seen as important documents that can help shape decisions about future programming and content.
Thanks again for taking the time to get in touch.
Kind Regards
