Don't know how many times it was said but whoever aid it seemed to raise a guffaw!

why is it 'cool' and funny to hear Lee Mack/Mitchell/Whitehall/Coogan et al say a 'naughty' word?

it seems so childish.

Or is it just me?

no need for it surely? youd never hear Morecambe and Wise/2 Ronnies/Les Dawson etc say that would you? watershed or not.

I'm really surprised that there is any element of 'cool' about it?
The Sex Pistols might have caused a stir with it on tv about twelfty million years ago but now, everybody's been there, done that, worn the tee-shirt. It's not cool, it's really quite tiresome.

I have to say, I gave up watching the Comedy awards years ago.
I just found it cringeworthy, everybody trying to out funny each other and largely failing.

LetZygonsbeZygons · 13/12/2013 18:26

exactly, so why are they still 'hee hee,i said a word and people laugh' about it? I just didn't get it.

I remember the pistols thing.

Ugh, I can imagine.
Mind you I think I am largely out of touch with a lot of modern comedy anyway. I just don't get most of it.
Ricky Gervais? how is insulting people funny?
I'm going off on one here aren't I

LetZygonsbeZygons · 13/12/2013 18:37

oh Im the same.

dont get me started!I remember the days you could tell a 'Englishman irishman scot' joke without it being un-pc yet they can still make disablist/religious 'jokes'.

its the swearing really, why the need to be so crude? Im old, I know, but in the 'old' days they could do the duble entenedres (sp) without being downright crude, and the most sweary word was 'ruddy' or something.

We are obviously channeling a bit of Mary Whitehouse between us :o

I watched it and thought 'am I getting old or is the language really bad ?? They said the c* word twice Shock

girliefriend · 13/12/2013 18:42

the c* word!!

girliefriend · 13/12/2013 18:43

Oh why won't it let me post three stars?!! Anyway I am sure you can guess the word anyway!!

FrostySamosa · 13/12/2013 18:51

The problem is that so many seem to think that shocking someone means they have a talent. I'm all for a good swear, but it should be used when Necessary, not just for the sake of it.

That said, I did snigger at Julian Clary's comment re Norman Lamont in 1993 (about the last time I watched it) - I admired his bravery for making such an outrageous comment!

LetZygonsbeZygons · 13/12/2013 19:00

yep the C word too. its like Miley and her porny videos, that's so talented....not!!!!

I occasionally swear on mn (never in rl, only in 'print') but not as a joke, its when im having a rant!

Swearing can be funny in the right context.
However the Comedy Awards are never funny - just grim.

Sandancer · 14/12/2013 15:05

I didn't watch the comedy awards but I notice this at the cinema - the audience (and my husband!) tend to laugh when the F word is said in certain contexts.
