ugh!! such ignorant messages being spread about FGM! "it keeps her calm, rather than being a supermarket that's open to everyone she's cooled down" wtf! so she has no mind of her own and no control over where she puts her own vagina? the clitoris will make her sleep around!

Its horrendous. I have seen other campaigns about this before and was totally shocked by them but this has taken it to another level.
Its so graphic and I literally have a headache watching it. I feel ill. What those poor women and children have to go through is unimaginable!

I think she has been really clever. those playdough type models were a brilliant way of showing what is actually done.

Still cant believe it all though.

I am so shocked that so many people signed her petition! I really really hope they signed it out of politeness and not actually listening to what it was about. or out of just wanting her to go away. I really hope that is not a true reflection of what people think is OK to do to children because of culture.

I think she's got it perfectly right - education and awareness is totally the key. The more people understand the details, what's actually happening to these little girls, the more people will stand up against it.

And I wish this thread had more posts. I wish more MNers were watching this and getting angry.

it was very clear how ignorant those men (both younger and older) were about FGM. some didn't know it was illegal, some didn't know it happened in the UK, they didn't know what physically happened to the girls, they didn't know the effects it has on the girls and were full of disgusting myths about what FGM 'acheives' (keeps girls from sleeping around!)

I mean they didn't know that this was/is happening to their sisters, daughters, friends etc. and if they did they didn't know what was actually happening to them.

I was really impressed by that group of young men.

I really hope she is able to get member of government to listen. Its horrendous!

I think she got the tone absolutely perfect. She went about it all in a very clever way. It's the best documentary on the subject that I have seen, and I've seen a fair few due to work.

I think men are guilty of wilful ignorance but I guess by the time they have real contact with a woman with FGM it's been a long time since the original trauma. If a woman is cut at say 7, and marries at 18 she's had 11 years to internalise it and accept it. As far as her new husband sees it isn't a big deal - he only sees the distant aftermath. Confronting them with the bloody truth and getting them to actually understand what a terrible thing has been done will hopefully help to break the cycle.

I think that would be preferable to the alternative i.e; they knew what they were signing. if they were just being polite then that gives hope that people don't actually support FGM.

Well here's a start, this is her petition, please sign it and send it to your friends to sign. It needs 100,000 signatures for it to be discussed in Parliament.
