Did anyone watch it??? does anyone else feel that the Mother & daughter team need a really good SLAP? I know they describe themselves as 'germaphobics' and do understand that they are extreme with their OCD but its the smug way in which they both look down upon anyone who doesn't think/act the same as them that makes my blood boil Angry but I do find the programme addictive watching and quite like the idea that 2 people both at the extreme end of cleaning/not cleaning are brought together...especially last nights show with the 'goat lady'. Confused

I wonder how they feel when they are cleaning. I find cleaning quite boring, but at least I don't do it for 16 hours a day Shock

working9while5 · 13/11/2013 22:39

OCD is an anxiety disorder, like a tic.
The activity is done to suppress anxiety, it's not about the germs/cleanliness etc. It's deep-seated anxiety projected onto these external, apparently controllable factors.

BMW6 · 14/11/2013 14:18

I wonder how the germphobics would react if they swabbed the inside of their own mouths..........

Agree Tuesday seems to have less of a problem than claimed and is trying to please her Mother. I notice she has now bleached her hair just like her Mum (it was a natural brown in the first episode).

alemci · 14/11/2013 16:54

agree about Tuesdays hair. hope she can get away from her mum.

sounds snobby but none of the ocd women seem very bright or educated. I know the chap worked but alot of the ocd women seem to have too much time on their hands fueling their cleaning obsession.

also the bleach is harmful to the environment.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 14/11/2013 17:05

Alemci i noticed that all of the ocd cleaner women didnt work. I dont know if that is a result of illness or the illness has crept in because of that. Could be both. I know when i left work to SAH i started hoarding. I didnt realise i was at the time, i genuinely believed i would use/do something with the stuff i was bringing into the house. Exp also left us just after i gave up work and i becane very depressed. The hoarding was worse the lower i got and the worse the house got the lower still i went. It was a horrible cycle.

alemci · 14/11/2013 17:53

did you manage to resolve the situation and stop hoarding. I must admit I have to fight against clutter and don't like chucking stuff out or being wasteful but my house is reasonable in h clean sense. it depends how I feel and you can control the house.

I did used to get upset with mess as my teenage dds were so untidy and didn't help.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 14/11/2013 18:06

Not resolved completely. I now veer between hoarding and manic cleaning. I am getting closer to a balance between the two though. Getting back to work was the start of feeling a lot better and that had a knock on effect on the house. The house is 'normal' now in that it is now back to the same level of cleanliness as it was before i became ill. One excpetion is my bedroom where i have a small corner of stuff i still havent gotten rid of completely but it is reducing weekly.

gaggiagirl · 14/11/2013 18:14

When I worked full time my house was only clean and tidy at weekends.

Now I'm part time its always sparkling but I even clean when I get in from work now. I think being at home often makes me notice everything more.

daisydee43 · 21/11/2013 13:00

I love when this programme comes on as gives me a kick up the backside to clean (not that my house is a dump but by no far as clean as it should be). Felt really sorry for the mother and daughter team as they are clearly very ill and need some serious help. Could never live like the hoarders tho Confused love the battle scenes when it gets heated

daisydee43 · 21/11/2013 13:10

Also I think they should use not diagnosed people next series and instead use 'clean freaks' - the OCD people need help

gaggiagirl · 21/11/2013 13:17

I agree daisy
Lesley (mother of Tuesday) is clearly very ill. She makes her daughter worse by confirming her fears and nodding her approval.

alemci · 21/11/2013 13:33

yes Tuesday's mum shouldn't be inflicting ocd on her dd. she appears to be very controlling.

PublicEnemyNumeroUno · 21/11/2013 13:47

I have OCD and loved the first series of this show. But i cant watch this series where they swab things, im a germaphobe and seeing them swab things and show just how many germs are on everyday items has made me worse, just seeing the numbers on that thing made me feel anxious and i ended up scrubbing my toilet for an hour after watching the first episode. Not good at all.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 21/11/2013 14:13

Publicenemy i am not surprised at all! I dont have ocd and even i shuddered at the thought if going in a swimming pool again after that episode.

The thing that really turned my stomach was when they swabbed the floor around the pool. The narrator said it was ok though as chlorine kills nearly all the germs. Which is true, except when you get out of the pool you are walking back across that dirty floor to the showers where there is no cholorine!! Boke! Shouldnt a leisure centre have higher hygiene levels than that floor? It was vile.

HollaAtMeBaby · 23/11/2013 20:59

but so what if the floor is dirty? even if you didn't wash all the germs off your feet once you got in the shower, you don't eat with your feet do you? why does it actually matter if bacteria are present if you're not getting sick?

PublicEnemyNumeroUno · 24/11/2013 09:00

Because some of us don't like the thought of germs being anywhere on us.

That may be irrational, but OCD is irrational

OpalTourmaline · 03/12/2013 22:19

I noticed that Tuesday's mum (What is her name?) is always hanging onto the arm of one of the other people with OCD. I didn't think much of it when it was her daughter, but I noticed her holding onto one of the other ladies today. I guess she might feel the need to as a security thing.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 03/12/2013 22:36

I noticed that lesley (tuesday's mum Grin) said something this evening that sounded odd. She said someone who was just 'starting off' with OCD as if it was something you set out to do and 'start off' as a beginner.

xuntitledx · 04/12/2013 13:54

Just watching the episode from last night, Glen was hilarious!

Bread sauce from 2008, "are you telling me that you're going to crack that out for dinner tonight?!"

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 04/12/2013 17:09

I laughed at that bit too! Grin

Glen was funny- i would have lost my head with that man (what was his name) for his high waistband alone never mind how apathetic he was.

HollaAtMeBaby · 16/12/2013 14:32

I really enjoyed the barely contained hostility between Glen and the big barrister/astronaut/collector man (name forgotten). All their conversation was SO passive aggressive. Grin

Has anyone else noticed that hoarders often seem to be quite isolated/lonely? The bit at the end where they get a friend/relative in to show off the cleaned-up house, it often seems to be someone quite random. Sad

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 16/12/2013 14:42

holla i became very isolated as my hoarding progressed, it was partly intentional as i couldnt bare the thought of anyone seeing my house like it was and then there was the knock on effect of me not inviting friends over, they would stop inviting me to theirs, phonecalls dried up and friendships suffered and i was very lonely. Only one friend ever saw my home when it was bad and that was because she has similar issues and i trusted her not to judge me as dirty or lazy because thats not what the problem was and i knew she would get that.
