fushandchups GET YOU Grin

ppeatfruit · 30/10/2013 08:32

Blimey digerd I thought she was in boots they had zips round the ankle? weird they were Confused what with the outfit and the botox I reckon she's reliving her lost youth (i can talk but I'm not on't telly Halloween Grin)

yesbutnobut · 30/10/2013 14:17

I though Karen Hardy was spot on last night about Sophie - I thought she was over marked on Saturday as her cha cha was rather 'floppy'. Also about Abbey who again I thought was over marked - she pointed out the gapping between her and her partner (can't remember his name!).

FushandChups · 30/10/2013 14:41

Monkseal's latest

Haven't had a chance to read it but thought would see if it was there. I really need to get out more!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 30/10/2013 14:44

Aljaž. Some of them have really dodgy holds this year I think.

Or it could just be I'm noticing other people's more, because I've been nagged about mine!

ppeatfruit · 30/10/2013 16:50

Thanks for Monkseal Fush It takes a lot of reading I'd recommend it for anyone who missed some or all of last week's. Grin

YYY yesbut

digerd · 30/10/2013 17:22

Polkadots
Just noticed your link to that video last Sunday - cringe. ' Oh look at me, I am so gorgeous and brilliant'. Really OTT and off-putting. I found his dancing rather grotesque tbh.
ppeat
Didn't notice the botox or the zips, I was a bit Confused by her shoes.

MsInterredInCrypt · 30/10/2013 17:33

Oh I love the Karen Hardy bits on ITT. I didn't watch scd when he was a pro on the regular show, more fool me! From what lots of you say, the main show had a lot more focus on the training/steps etc then too.

Flavia was good in Karen's spot last week too, wasn't she? (behind the times, in more ways than one, sorry...)

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 30/10/2013 17:55

I wonder if she's less experienced than him, so their routines are designed so you focus on him more? They dance youth, so must be under 19 Shock

Although I was once told that ladies competing from 16-35 aim to look about 25 Grin

OP posts:
digerd · 30/10/2013 18:18

I really was not able to look at her as soon as he began to dance . He completely overshadowed her and I couldn't watch for long as was put off by himSad. He was putting his all into his dancing, but was OTT.
Didn't realise they were youths.
At 35 I think we all aimed to look 25Grin

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock · 30/10/2013 18:37

Who are we talking about? Who dances youth?

Sorry to be the old dear in a corner with an ear-trumpet Grin

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 30/10/2013 20:04

Oh, we were talking about male dancers looking masculine whilst dancing Latin, and I said how I'd been told the man's job is to make the 'frame' for the lady being the 'picture'. I posted of how strange it can look when the man does a lot more than the girl. They're a Russian youth couple, so 16-19 years old.

FrankelInFoal · 30/10/2013 20:12

I have to take issue, a bit, with what Karen said about not having time to teach the celebs things like the correct bounce action in the samba (or CBMP in Ballroom) - I'm sorry, but they are integral to the dance itself! If you can't teach it even in a basic fashion then a) rethink your choreography and maybe take out some of the unnecessary faffing about and b) have a look at your teaching abilities!

I've been taught about the bounce action from day 1 of learning Samba, it's not an after-thought, it has to be built into the foundations of knowledge.

CloudOfStarlings · 30/10/2013 22:41

I didn't see Karen this week but what you say makes perfect sense frankel - bit weird that she said that?!

msinterred EVERYTHING used to be better about Strictly pre-series 7 and 'evil Moira Ross' (copyright monkseal)

Have to say I'm holding my breath about dreaded Halloween week.. yes yes the costumes & makeup are great but waste of time VTs & stupid gimmicky dances Grr wanders off muttering angrily about Scooby-doo themed cha chas

MsInterredInCrypt · 30/10/2013 22:50

Can you give a dimwit a quick guide to evil Moira Ross? Was it her wot dumped Arlene then?

I'll happily bow to anyone with greater since knowledge than I (er, that'll be everyone on the thread then...) but I thought it was interesting what Karen said after the bit about the samba bounce. She thought the pros should be teaching them more content and challenging routines, was that right? I can't remember exactly now but I remember thinking it sounded good. Maybe just bc it was re Craig being overly picky. On the whole I respect his views and comments but stimes it feels like he's trying to put a plaster in a broken leg - 'you're heel lead was limp' (told you I know nuffink!) when it seems more pressing issues of hold and rhythm would be better addressed?!

Ooh, I'm ranting now!

MsInterredInCrypt · 30/10/2013 22:52

*greater DANCE knowledge than I

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 31/10/2013 01:03

I think it's hard on Strictly- like rumba for example the hip action is a big part of it but isn't a natural feeling, so I can see how it's easier to get them to 'wiggle' a bit and hope for the best, rather than focus on the mechanics of it in just one week.

Some things like the heel leads are really worth doing; (a) because it's correct and (b) because they're easy to see and it's generally easier to get somebody to remember to do a heel lead than to dance in time if they really struggle to find a beat.

I also think if they're struggling to learn a dance they should do a bit more practising rather than going roller blading/to a football pitch/to a boardroom. I don't mind something a bit different happening, like if they go to a social dance club or have friends and family come to training (I'm pretty sure Gethin went zorbing before his VW), but the sake of doing something different for the sake of it every single week irritates me.

Series Seven was when it became gimmicky really, new pros, new dances and the start of the costumes and props. And mark inflation...

OP posts:
FrankelInFoal · 31/10/2013 06:55

They're trying to turn it into DWTS. The worst part of that is that I've seen, in the past at least, them make musical slebs dance to their own songs

Polkadots, I remember what you refer to Karen saying, I think it was in reference to Mark's Waltz and CBMP. She said he was stiff and none of the judges picked up on his lack of CBMP which is what caused the stiffness (I'm sure Len would have lived to say something but they've probably told him not to use technical terms!). Karen spent a minute or so talking about how important use of CBMP is in Ballroom only to then say, "but you don't have time to teach it" Hmm

I get that it's something that can't be learnt in a few days, but if they at least make an attempt to build it in from the start of the series, each Ballroom dance would get progressively better as it applies right through - it is also used in Paso Doble.

FrankelInFoal · 31/10/2013 07:00

Sorry, I should have explained to non-dance folk that CBMP is Contra-Body Movement Position. It is basically where your top half continues to face your partner, while your feet face point in another direction.

ppeatfruit · 31/10/2013 09:11

Frankel sorry to sound thick but what is DWTS? I do wish that the beeb could keep it's good popular programmes and not fiddle with them to go downmarket with them .Let the others come UP to their standard.

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock · 31/10/2013 09:19

Thanks Polka. He DOES look a bit ridiculous, doesn't he? Grin

Frankel, I completely agree about CBMP and the samba bounce. They're not add-ons, they're basic building blocks, surely?

CloudOfStarlings · 31/10/2013 09:23

YES frankel and YES ppeat...totally agree with both of you on those points. Particularly the stupid VTs! Really makes me angry that these slebs who don't have much time (particularly Susanna/Ashley etc who are still working full time too) are made to spend a day/a few hours filming stupid VTs! Just show us their training FGS!

pp DWTS= Dancing With The Stars, the American version of SCD.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 31/10/2013 09:27

DWTS is Dancing with the Stars- the American format of Strictly.

I haven't seen Karen yet, but that does sound really odd about CBMP. It makes dancing so much easier! It's one of those things that even if you can't always get it right, knowing it's there and trying to do it at least some of the time really helps. And of course you're right, over the whole series with it repeated across the dances they should really have improved by the end.

OP posts:
ppeatfruit · 31/10/2013 09:31

Thanks cloud Halloween Grin Surely if it's a franchise belonging to the beeb they should call the shots shouldn't they?

Theheadless Of course being decapitated you would be rather deaf wouldn't you? Halloween Grin

TheHeadlessLadyofCannock · 31/10/2013 10:07

ppeat, yes, it has its downsides Grin

The Beeb seems to sell Strictly all over the world but with a great deal of freedom for other countries to make it their own.
