It really is heartbreaking to watch. The pressure they are putting Hsiao-Hung under is awful you can imagine so easily other women caving in. I'm sure this is a well worn routine for Mary to isolate and humiliate women, it's the same dynamics you see in abusive relationships

I hope all the stupid women on mn who try and say that being a prostitute or working in the porn industry is a woman somehow asserting a feminist power or right to choose however she wants to be - or whatever other bollocks I've read on here - just so they needn't face up to the fact that their porn-watching partners are tossers - I just hope they are all watching this and thinking again.

Sex workers and porn workers are exploited abused women who need help. Men who go to prostitutes or who watch porn are helping to perpetuate the exploitation and abuse of women - and children.

Oh it was just awful.
Mary knew exactly what to say to get what she wanted. I think any woman who had really been in that position would have caved in very early on.
It was her saying that she wasn't a real mother and that she wasn't providing for her child. It was so awful and cruel.
I think that Mary felt that Hsaio-hung almost had something over her by refusing to do sex work.

Deeply uncomfortable viewing, these are hardly empowered women having to sleep with some smelly vile man just so she can pay her smuggler or feed her family.

I got the impression that Hsaio-Hung refusing to be prostituted upset Mary as she felt that Hsaio-Hung believed herself to be superior or better than her.

Although its completely understandable that the nature of the undercover documentary meant that we only saw that microcosm of the industry it would have been very interesting to have learnt more about the massive debts the women all seemed to have to traffickers, and their involvement in the sex trade industry.
