lol - actually one book I really did enjoy about the 80s is Martin Kemp's biography True. Don't read it if you are a fan of beautiful writing because it's written a bit how you imagine a tabloid journalist would write a book.

dh read it and said it was excellent.

bp = you are right, sleekness didn't exist, ie frizz ease and hair straighteners still blue sky thinking.

zippitippitoes · 18/05/2006 15:53

so is it worth watching..I haven't read it either...doesn't sound very appealing to me

bakedpotato · 18/05/2006 15:53

There was one exponent of 80s sleek: Sade. Oh and those ladies behind Robert Palmer in "Addicted to Love' video. And I think that's about it.

Hair was big.

I saw the Biederbecke Connection on DVD a couple of nights ago, which was of course made in the 1980s and had some fabulously awful - and frumpy - hair and clothes.

gosh you're right about the robert palmer gals...always thought they looked freakish and were wearing wigs..

i went to a charity do a couple of years ago and couple of the thirtysomething gals had saved their raw stripy raw silk puff sleeved velvet bodiced frocks. awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
(and their bubble perms, by the look of it. and deffo their pale blue eyeshadow)

episode 2 tonight!

I read the book too and think it's a good adaptation (but of course, it's A. Davies innit)

Mum and I had beads of sweat on our top lips during the sex scenes :-S
