what I can;t work out, is a baby that was born the same time as DD2 and was in SCBU with her, who was born addicted to drugs, was allowed home with her druggy parents, yet SS will take a child like that, even if there is strong family link to a genitic disease.

i know - unfortunately assessments are done by people. all sorts of factors influence outcome which probably shouldn't - geography, team management style... i think in the case you've come across verses Real Story is TV parents denied they were abusing - druggy parents probably went along with accepting help. i know we are assuming they're innocent, but in terms of risk assessment - abusers denying abusing are high risk iyswim

I know what you are saying, but with such a strong family link, it should have been looked into. It would have proved it either way. When that doctor showed what sort of fracture Child B had, I realised straight away that DD2 had that sort of fracture when she was 2, it made me shudder thinking that that kind of fracture is normally abuse IYKWIM.

sparklygothkat,
what makes a fracture suspicious is the lack of explanation which is compatable with the mechanism of injury.
In your case there was an explanation for the fracture-which was compatable with the mechanism of injury-end of story.
whan a parent cannot explain how a fracture may have occurred (usually fractures cause pain and loss of function and so do not easily go unnoticed) alarm bell rightly ring.

I see, I can see the SS's POV, no explaination for the fractures, I'm guessing they had no idea how it happpened.
