A question about 'Friends' - yes I should be over it by now

...but I've been pondering because I'm pregnant myself. Is there a moment when Phoebe discovers she's carrying triplets? Have I missed this? I think I've seen every episode and I'm sure it just goes from her finding out she's pregnant to suddenly referring to three babies.....

The only thing about friends that ever annoyed me was that they retrospectively made Richard a creepy arsehole. He wasn't, he was lovely and perfect.

I love friends but have never ever thought of it in terms of the issues contained within the storylines. It was/is humourous (sp?) escapism for me.

As 'real' as an episode of doctor who Grin

YY Richard was lovely and definitely not creepy, he was perfect

That whole adoption storyline where they basically took the piss out of the poor, thick white trash girl who was giving them her baby stunk.

There wasn't a single realistic birth in Friends either. How the hell did the doctor not notice Rachel's baby was breech, especially when she was coming in and VEing her every 5 minutes? VB of triplets with one doctor in attendance?! In America? Pull the other...

I loved Friends but the following really annoyed me.

Rachel and Monica's nipples.
The way they treated each other and strangers at times. (Rachel abandoning Phoebe to fly to London, then thinking it acceptable to go on the honeymoon of the person she was hoping to oust, Chandler and any woman except Monica, Rachel keeping quiet when her boss viciously bullied Sophie...)
Rachel's unrealistic transition from ditzy waitress to fashion powerhouse.
Joey's lack of money in the early days. It never stopped him from doing anything. Same for Phoebe and Rachel actually.
Unrealistic births. Carol giving birth to Ben made me cross.
Unrealistic weddings. Ok so Joey declares you man and wife so you must be married right? No register to sign or anything?
Invisible babies.
Phoebe thinking she is stunning. The amount of make up and lighting required towards the end was horrific.
Monica and Joey. You knew it was them. But they change completely from series 1 - 10. Courteney Cox was stunning until she succumbed to LA fakery.
Richard pretending not to recognise Monica when she knocked on his door. He's best friends with her dad. Why wouldn't he know her?
The attitude to work. They were hardly there. When they were they were fucking about.
Celebrity cameos. I don't mind Brad Pitt but there were bits of scenery on better form than him.
The blase attitude towards porn, strippers, lapdancers etc.
Emily. I hated how she became the bad guy even though she did nothing wrong.

hells that is something I didn't realise the first time I watched it, but I watched the very last episode and was quite horrified tbh.

I disagree about Emily - I want to throttle Helen Baxendale in everything I see her in Grin

Tbh, not an Emily fan but bloody hell could they have been more scathing about her character? Tries to salvage the remnants of her marriage and still comes off as the bad guy? Gotta love the writing on Friends. FWIW I hated her in Cold Feet too :o

Valium I completely and utterly agree with you about Helen bloody Baxendale. It ruined every scene she was in. My cat shows more emotion than she does. She is wooden and has an annoying face.

The best bit of Cold Feet was when Helen Baxendale's character was killed. I cheered.

Out of all the outstasnding actresses the UK had to offer, they picked Baxendale. Honestly!

Also- I have been out with two people who think she is gorgeous. Why? Seriously, why?

I always wonder about the Monica and Chandler infertility. Everytime it's on I say to DH couldn't they try IVF/ICSI? If they can try donor sperm or a surrogate then surely they could.

There's also inconsistencies with how they started off the characters in the first series and how they are later on.

I always thought Rachel was incredibly selfish to just decide she was taking her daughter to Paris without giving Ross, the father, a moment's thought or consultation.

I thought that they never really knew what to do with Emma beyond giving them a pregnancy story line for a season. She comes and goes, with vague references to her "being with my parents", but otherwise largely invisible.

Yes they do a lot on TV don't they? The writers like the drama of a birth but not the humdrum of everyday life with a child. They just don't seem to know how to write them in once they've done a shouty 20 minute birth scene.

Agree marje. Some episodes were scriptwriting master classes i.e The One Where Everyone Finds Out, but others, like the one where Chandler was watching a shark documentary were utterly dire.

It's still a brilliant series though.
