Get a grip for complaining? Really? Confused

slartybartfast · 22/01/2013 10:01

Hmm back to you

thats what i said

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 22/01/2013 10:02

Have to admit that I LOLd when I saw it. I wondered how much of an outcry there would be but it never crossed my mind to complain.

valiumredhead · 22/01/2013 10:43

I think it's pretty awful and clearly enough people thought so too and the episode won't be shown again.

valiumredhead · 22/01/2013 10:46

I posted the confused smiley not the Hmm one as I was confused as to why you would think people needed to get a grip.

hermioneweasley · 22/01/2013 10:46

Wy would you complain? The kids watching won't understand the reference, and it was made years before the reality had come to light.

valiumredhead · 22/01/2013 10:48

The children might not understand the reference but so many people have been affected, directly and indirectly, it is not appropriate to show the episode.

slartybartfast · 22/01/2013 10:51

apologes valium, i see it was a confused rather than a hmm.

As if kids would be harmed by seeing that!

slartybartfast · 22/01/2013 10:53

i think we have the video, they sing I Like Bananas, and my dc's loved that one particularly.
obviously the children watching wouldnt know the reference. i spose they would not make a parody of gary glitter in the same way.
i spose the people that did complain may have thought they were being entirely reasonable. just wondered how many here got hot under the collar aobut it. and as the thread i linked to shows, no one did

sadly some people will complain about anything

HecateWhoopass · 22/01/2013 10:57

No. didn't have a clue about it.

But I don't think anyone can claim it was in good taste...

valiumredhead · 22/01/2013 11:12

I only knew about it afterwards but if I had seen it I would've complained and I have never written and complained about anything!

Shall we just leave all reference to JS up in Stoke Mandeville hospital then seeing as the wards/gardens were named before it was revealed what he was up to? After all the majority of the children won't know who he is.

Mrcrumpswife · 22/01/2013 11:25

I didnt complain but if i had seen it i certainly would of.

You would think someone in TV world would be being very careful what does go out to viewers especially when we are about to see one of the biggest investigations expose just how many people were involved with savile and who was protecting him and why they were protecting him which is the bigger question. Operation Fernbridge only hit the nationals last week so you would have thought the BBC would be extra vigilant.

The BBC keep showing their total contempt for victims from the past and our children today. The Tweenies are shit TV at the best of times let alone having a JS Tweenie.

valiumredhead · 22/01/2013 11:27

Well put mrs i

valiumredhead · 22/01/2013 11:27

random i Grin

slartybartfast · 22/01/2013 11:29

aww we my dc loved the tweenies

OP posts:
slartybartfast · 22/01/2013 11:29

turns out there werent that many complaints, not to the BBC itself, about the programme. mainly it was a social networking thing

OP posts:
Mrcrumpswife · 22/01/2013 11:30

Nothing wrong with a random iWink

valiumredhead · 22/01/2013 11:31

Clearly social networking is as effective as writing to complain.

SpanishFly · 22/01/2013 14:22

Unless the episode was called "jimmy savile" then the bbc schedulers would never have known its content, particularly as they didn't name him in the episode., ie even the subtitles wouldnt hv waved any warning flags beforehand. Bbc staff cant be expected to watch every episode of every programme, just in case it contains something offensive. Im not sure how an error can be classed as "showing contempt" tbh
