is Cbeebies just a half-hearted effort these days?

maybe it's just me, but recently I've noticed that on weekends Cbeebies seem to play back-to-back eppisodes of various programmes, e.g. two eppisodes of big cook little cook, seemingly endless eppisodes of bobbinogs etc. Today we switched on Cbeebies at about 12, and Balamory was on, after balamory I was shocked that there was ... balamory, again. then later big cook little cook was on twice - are they just filling now? It just seems to me like they just don't seem to be bothered any more.

this made my ds really laugh as I was so shocked when the same programme came on again.

mumatuks · 03/04/2006 16:54

I think they've got lazy on their original success. I completely agree on the back to back programming. Obvioiusly they are giving the presenters the wknd off!

MMH · 03/04/2006 16:54

Dont get me started, theyve just been making aliens out of swiss roll and jelly sweets.

Cant stand that new presenter either, she's crap.

WestCountryLass · 03/04/2006 21:27

We don't like the back to backs either.

Completely agree.

threelittlebabies · 03/04/2006 21:30

I am outraged they have taken teletubbies off, as it was the only thing we had on most days. dd only 7mo but loves to look at the bright colours, mainly the green of the grass! Blush She likes football being on for the same reason Smile

Back-to-back Doodle Do is okay, though...

MadamePlatypus · 04/04/2006 12:56

I know - DS loves Pippin. We had just got to the end of one episode of 'Come Outside', "Bye Bye Pippin Bye Bye Pippin" and I was ready to get out the door when "Hello Pippin, Hello Pippin". There do seem to be alot of repeats at the moment. To be fair, when I first started watching CBeebies about a year ago I wasn't so aware of what was a repeat. However, there is a distinct lack of new stuff at the moment. I have noticed these lulls in the past though - I suppose they have a limited budget and can only afford to commission so many new series.

dinny · 04/04/2006 12:57

BBC is making huge cutbacks atm, this is why.

gigglinggoblin · 04/04/2006 12:58

when did they take teletubbies off? was sure it was on the otherday. ds3 is currently glued to something special :) unfortunately it means he learns signs for things and i dont know what he is talking about = much frustration

Moomin · 04/04/2006 13:26

it goes in stages i think. although they've got shot of sue and nicole, there have been some new and newish programmes: doodle do for one, lunar jim or whatever he's called as well. boogie beebies is only a year old and big cock little cock (as my dh calls them!Shock) has got some new episodes. they've always done repeats at the weekend - and anything's better than the shiny show which is wot they used to put in back-to-back - i think it's the beeb's way of saying 'wtf are you doing in front of the tv at the weekend anyway? get out into the fresh air!' (that's what my gran used to say to me as i sat goggle-eyed watching tiswas)

i do think the links have gone right down - when you look at what goes on now compared to the good old days of that weekday song where they all lived in a different coloured house.... ah, them was the days Smile

petunia · 04/04/2006 14:09

gigglinggoblin- Teletubbies is only on at 6am on CBeebies now. It's not even on BBC2 at 10am now (found this out from the "grown-ups" bit of the CBeebies messageboard). It's all part of their new schedules that started yesterday. So far, I'm not impressed.

nicolajc · 04/04/2006 15:57

Talking as a parent with a special needs child i think something special ia FAB.
And one of the main reasons for it i would say gigglinggoblin is that its very difficult to get your child into a special needs school so inclusion is becoming more and more at least this way your child will be able to comunicate with a child with special needs and thank god in ourday of age special needs arent as "unusual" so its taking the edge of it for children so they are learning it and hopefully in future my son wouldnt get ridiculed for using signs and will become more accepted in society.

Nbg · 04/04/2006 16:04

I absolutely hate Cbeebies. DD quite clearly had no interest in it and she's only 2.5.

The only programme she would watch was something special and I'm convinced it was because of Justin the presenter.

I find the rest of the presenting cringeworthy and the programmes are just utter bab IMO.

NatalieJane · 04/04/2006 16:12

Hadn't realised they had taken Teletubbies off - about bloody time if you ask me, that program was awful and my DS even at 4 years old is still scared of it!

wannaBe1974 · 05/04/2006 12:07

Natallie I'm with you re the teletubbies. It's absolute trash and I refuse to allow my DS to watch it as I think it's an insult to childrens' inteligence. And actually if ever I've been out of the room and teletubbies has come on ds has always come away from the tv saying he doesn't want to watch that anyway.

If I remember rightly wasnt there a huge outcry about teletubbies when it first started, saying that it wasn't good for kids to watch it?
