Sad I know I'm god knows how many years behind you all but, I've been good and watched it faithfully week by week from the beginning. I think it's the best thing I've ever watched. Ever. I will mids that family.

Did Meadow join them in the end, or was she still trying to park the car? Remind me?

lighthousekeeping · 26/09/2012 22:44

Well she was late coming to the party but she did make it as she came through the door he looked up and then it went blank. Was he looking at his killer or at Meadow?

SuperB0F · 26/09/2012 22:46

The way I interpreted it, he was killed and she saw it, but other people think differently, I suppose. It was open to interpretation.

lighthousekeeping · 26/09/2012 22:48

Well I hope Meadow escaped! We'll never know.

See, I didn't think he was dead!

I thought it was saying that every moment, every time a door opened, he'd never know what was behind it. That was his future, and it'd never change.

I wish they'd not had him kill Christopher in the last series. I didn't think that felt right.

limitedperiodonly · 27/09/2012 09:45

Christopher deserved to die. He was horrible. So was Tony. Great character though.

The only one I liked was Sil. I know that he did some terrible things but they were part of his job. He didn't kill or hurt people for his own good like the rest of them did.

Liked Furio for the same reasons.

Just trying to think of the worst person and every time I think of Janice, Livia pops into my memory and uncle Junior and Janice's psychotic boyfriend (both of them, actually) - so many vile, cowardly and greedy people.

HiHowAreYou · 27/09/2012 10:13

But he was like a son to Tony. How could he do that? I didn't buy it.

lighthousekeeping · 27/09/2012 12:04

It was the drugs, not Tonys thing. He was a liability and, as he was half dead anyway he just finished the job. I never recovered from Adriana Sad they all treated women likeccrap, didn't they and, yet, I missed Tonys womanising ways in the last season Blush

Adrianna was awful. :(

lighthousekeeping · 27/09/2012 14:21

It stayed with me for ages. Not one of them had any redeeming features.

No, not even the greedy freeloading priest Grin

Actually, I think Melfi was the one moral character, although of course she is challenged by her circle on the ethics of treating Tony at all, and accused of getting almost vicarious thrills through her association with him. It reminds me of when the same actress, Lorraine Braco, says as her character in Goodfellas, "The truth is, it turned me on". But I think it was a really pivotal moment in the whole show when, knowing she only has to say the word, she makes the choice not to tell Tony that she has been raped, and ultimately rejects the retribution available to her.

lighthousekeeping · 27/09/2012 17:05

Oh, she was the best character by far. I loved that side to the show. I really like Carmella but, why didn't she break free when she had the chance? Did you ever read that interview when they said that for all those years they loved each other like man and wife and when the show ended for ages she was jealous when she saw him with someone? That really touched me.

SuperB0F · 27/09/2012 17:18

Oh, I didn't, no. It really was amazing, just top top notch drama.

limitedperiodonly · 27/09/2012 17:31

I didn't like Carmela either Smile but I suppose Tony infected people. I can understand how someone like Carmela wouldn't give up her comfortable life or even be able to cope without Tony.

I never thought he'd hurt her, unless she went to the police, but he really wouldn't have taken it well if she'd left him.

lighthousekeeping · 27/09/2012 17:39

And yet she knew she was risking her and her children's lifes its amazing, really. All her friends husbands/sons that he had bumped off along the way. How come paully got away scot free? He was loathsome. Did he betray tony in the end? I couldn't work those looks out.

I think I'm one of the only ones that doesn't think they were whacked at the end. I think it was simply that life went on, and yes he would never know what was behind those doors.

I loved it. I cried when Adrienne died and I think I shed a few tears for Christopher too. I hated Tony after that.
Definitely the best tele ever The Wire a good second.

limitedperiodonly · 27/09/2012 17:47

How does Christopher die?

When Adrienne is killed her mother confronted someone in the street. Was it Carmela?

I've forgotten loads.

lighthousekeeping · 27/09/2012 17:49

I think her mother confronted them in the street and again at a fair.

Christopher is driving Tony it's dark and bad weather. He's loaded with coke and they come off the road. Tony escapes but Chris is in a bad way. Tony goes to ring and ambulance but Chris begs him not to as he is on drugs. Tony looks to the back seat and sees a tree over the baby seat. He holds Christopher's nose. Bye bye Chris. I hated him. Remember what he did to his drug counsellor?

HiHowAreYou why do you say Adrianne was awful? - She never did anything wrong in my book - all she ever did was love Christopher. She was set up by the FBI and in all the time she was an informer she never gave away anything big.

SuperB0F · 27/09/2012 18:20

On the subject of Carmela, the final season opens with a montage during which Carmela has a dream about Adrianna. They are in the empty shell of a house Carmela is building (like the 'spec house' Adrian's was so excited about), which maybe symbolises how Carmela is at once constructing her family life, and how empty, transient and vulnerable it is. She says to Adrianna: "I worry." Adrianna replies that they all worry. "No. I mean I worry ALL THE TIME."

Adrianna fades away, and it becomes clear she is just a dream, a shadow. Carmela has become obsessed with her fate.

I think this points to how Carmela copes with her situation, or rather doesn't. She has an uneasy truce with it, and is eaten away by an constant gnawing anxiety.

SuperB0F · 27/09/2012 18:21

Adrian's should read Adrianna, sorry. Auto correct!

lighthousekeeping · 27/09/2012 18:31

I dont think HI thought Adriana was awful more likely they way in which they killed her.

Im actually looking forward to one day buying the boxed set and reliving it all.

What about his sister, Janice? no sooner is her husband dead than she is packing his kids off!! they have already lost their mother. She is a nasty piece of work.

BTW, can anyone clarify who Meadows fiance is? is he part of "the family"?

OP posts:
SuperB0F · 27/09/2012 18:49

Yes, he is Patsy's son. Patsy is the likely next boss if Tony dies (assuming Paulie also gets whacked, which I think is inevitable). Everyone else left are just 'soldiers'.

Patsy's twin was killed by Tony- "There's nothing worse than losing a twin", so I think it's fair to say he has motive for getting Tony bumped off.

Not that it matters who ordered the hit, but that's my theory.
