Fair play to her not gaining any weight in 3 months whilst pg. I didn't manage that!

TwelveLeggedWalk · 20/09/2012 22:26

Bl

MummysHappyPills · 20/09/2012 22:26

I kind of disagree. I think if hcps are not honest with patients about the risks that obesity poses then who will be?

TwelveLeggedWalk · 20/09/2012 22:26

Bloody Nora, was he a consultant? Not a proponent of active birth then Shock

getrealandgetalife · 20/09/2012 22:27

I agree, the HAVE to be straight with them, and it is a proven fact, not an opinion.

ringodingo · 20/09/2012 22:27

I was tiny before I got pregnant. after giving birth i had forgot to pack my clothes to go home in. said to partner to go to the shop for some for me.asked me what size to get I said size 12 to which he looked at me horrified in disgust that I had got bigger. wish I had been a size 18 would of bloody sat on him!!!

WidowWadman · 20/09/2012 22:28

I agree with MummyHappyPills - and so far all the HCPs appear to be very objective and professional - how else should they talk to the women?

They must make them aware of the risks, there's no point in pussyfooting around it just to avoid hurt feelings.

timeforanewname · 20/09/2012 22:28

He's nice.... The anestheitst told me I was to fat for an epidural when I was pregnant with dd1 I was only 13 stone.

MummysHappyPills · 20/09/2012 22:29

The reason why an epidural is done in the begining is that they are far more fiddly to do on overweight people so if an EMCS is needed an epidural/spinal might be hard to do urgently, so mum ends up having to have a general. Most people would prefer this not to happen I am guessing?

shittingit · 20/09/2012 22:29

Awww I really feel for the lady with pre eclampsia, I had it in my last pregnancy and my weight was never brought up during any of the meetings/hospital stays. Think she realises she's overweight bringing it up all the time is a bit shitty and not going to get her bp down.

inhaling rat poison and carbon manoxide surely must be worse?

ggirl · 20/09/2012 22:32

feel bad for them..must be awful
i know they have to give them the info and not pussy foot around the issue but they must feel very guilty

ringodingo · 20/09/2012 22:32

Baby Charlie is a cutie

shittingit · 20/09/2012 22:33

TwelveLeggedWalk · 20/09/2012 22:33

True, am a twin mum and was told they would want that epidural in ASAP, but i wasn't impressed with how it was suggested to me either.

( and I did end up with a GA, but for different reasons!)

TwelveLeggedWalk · 20/09/2012 22:35

Squeeeeee. Hand sucking.

getrealandgetalife · 20/09/2012 22:35

to be fair... i had severe hyperemesis in my pregnancy. I only carried for 7 months, but spent 4 months of that as an inpatient - constantly throwing up. I was told that i had to eat and eat healthily, even when i was sick 20 minutes later.

they were always worried about thebaby.
When i gave birth i lost 2 stone! but dont worry, it was back within 6 months!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 20/09/2012 22:35

That anaesthetist is awful! No chance of a mobile labour then! And if the baby is back to back, WTH isn't she on all fours?!

MummysHappyPills · 20/09/2012 22:36

Everyone is aware that obesity causes major risks in pregnancy. When they get complications due to it, then they have to accept that. It's like telling a mother of a baby with fetal alcohol syndrome that it wasn't her drinking that did it because there is nothing they can do about it now? It's harsh and I am not judging anyone. I have been a slightly overweight before and gained about 3.5 stones in pg, so I know it is hard work to keep your weight down. However I was never obese and don't think it was ever at the level where I or baby was at risk of serious health problems, however if it had happened and the hcps said it was down to my weight, I would have to accept responsibility for that.

bionicmummy · 20/09/2012 22:37

I wonder what these mums were told about the programme?

"you're going to appear on O.B.E.M"

OR

"you're going to appear on O.B.E.M - PLUS SIZE"

Hmm
MrsJohnMurphy · 20/09/2012 22:38

Make people aware of the risks, yes, keep banging on about it no. What on earth is the point once you are actually pregnant, not like you can wish away 5 stone Hmm.

I have been obese for all 3 pregnancies, just over the line with the first, about 16 stone with the third. Was an absolute arse on getting spinal/epidurals in although don't have a particularly fat back iyswim.

Wasn't really mentioned much for the first 2 pg, apart from gtt, had gestational diabetes with the third, never put any actual fat on during pg, even lost weight by the end of the third.

MrsTomHardy · 20/09/2012 22:38

She lost 20 stone in 2 years!!!!!!
Omg....amazing
