Check our prices??? It's £1. There are no bloody prices. Confused

slalomsuki · 17/09/2012 20:29

Be worth a trip I think since I live in the town with the largest poundland. Bet there are different flavours of cup cakes in mine!

Harimad · 17/09/2012 20:30

The sizing thing / psychology of people buying stuff thinking it's a bargain because it's 'only a pound' isn't a great surprise, but the toy safety issues are truly alarming!

slalomsuki · 17/09/2012 20:30

Bet the blow torch to set the toy on fire was a pound too.

Sparklingbrook · 17/09/2012 20:31

One of the Poundlands I go to used to be a Woolworths. It's huge. The other one is tiny and unbearable.

Leftwingharpie · 17/09/2012 21:11

Dispatches reporters/researchers are among the laziest "journalists" there are. There should be an exposé on them and their total lack of integrity and professionalism.

BillyBollyBandy · 17/09/2012 21:13

Agree totally leftwingharpie

Remotecontrolduck · 17/09/2012 21:23

The Stila make up being 8 years old (at least) got me

I thought it was too good to be true, but christ that is bad!!

nickiminja · 18/09/2012 07:26

I thought it was all a non story tbh. Most people will realise that 9 Breakaways are better value than 8, despite confusing percentages on the packet.
And the make up is sealed and choc full of preservatives so probably not a problem. Who knows how long the stuff you buy anywhere has been hanging around.
I missed the toys bit. Shit toys can be bought anywhere, my kids don't generally have blow torches and if they have a pound to spend we don't expect it to last longer than a day or too.
We heart Poundland, amazing craft and stationery and toiletries.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 18/09/2012 07:30

It is a bit sensationalist.

It is pretty easy to work out that crisps sold in a packet of 5 for a quid is not necessarily cheaper than the pack of 6 sold in Asda for a few pence more.

And I don't really care about old make up. I have got old make up in my bag.

Still think poundland is a great concept, especially for boring basics like shampoo, detergent etc.

Like any shop you have just got to be a bit savvy.

I think that sums it up usual. Wink Or a box of After Eight mints. Grin

SunWukong · 18/09/2012 10:19

I think it was a stupid program, it relied on the belief that people who shop there are idiots who don't know the cost of things.

I think people are not that dumb, they have eyes and can read, memories and can remember, who goes in pound land and goes oh look that's a quid it must be cheaper.

You don't you go in there and go, hmm that chocolate is cheaper then asda by 20p but that one there is more money and that sugar is 10p more then Iceland etc

I don't agree with them liking things to those on offers that's a bit stupid, if it is pound lands regular price it should be compared to the supermarkets regular shop, i don't think anyone shops exclusively there unless they are stupid.

SunWukong · 18/09/2012 10:27

That toy i swear to god that was a dog's toy, what child would want a little rubber squid?.

I get my son toy cars in there when they have the packs of two, they are no better or worse then the supermarket one brand ones.

I also buy some of the make up, baby bath and odds and ends like glue and stuff.

I don't love poundland, there are far better cheap shops, we used to have one here called ab superstore which was great, i miss that, i resent places like poundland and world muscling out the smaller better shops.

Himalaya · 18/09/2012 10:27

The program was mildly interesting, but had about 10 minutes worth of content padded out to an hour with tedious and parinising explanation.

A bit like poundland packs of biscuits that claim 50% extra free Grin

WildWorld2004 · 19/09/2012 09:24

Im just catching up on this program & it jus seems like all it wants to do is slag of poundland.

They go on about size changes like poundland are the only ones doing it. Has this guy not been dwn the chocolate aisle in the supermarkets. You used to get five bars in a multipack now u get four. The size is also smaller & the price is more.

Its quite a patronising program. I shop around & i know whats value for money and so does the majority of shoppers.

euwa · 19/09/2012 09:28

I didn't watch it because I thought they would treat it's shoppers as if they didn't have a clue about prices in other stores and sizes etc.

Himalaya · 19/09/2012 09:54

I did think the bit on 30% extra free etc... was interesting. They wouldn't bother to print that on the packet if it didn't influence some people, and it is absolutely meaningless.

ethelb · 19/09/2012 09:59

i thought the size of the packaing was an interesting point.

I didn't realise the bottles of dettol were smaller in Poundland and you frequently get people on here boasting that they keep their costs down by food shopping at aldi and buying cleaning products at poundland.

SunWukong · 19/09/2012 11:06

Dettol is not a pound in the supermarkets tho, they where basing that on an offer which is dumb.

I didn't know the warbertons bread was smaller, but then I've never looked at it as a pound is far too much for a loaf of white sliced i pay 47p.

getmeoutofthismadhouse · 20/09/2012 22:02

I would rather go to £shop and spend £1 on a bottle of cleaning product that may just be a little smaller than the one in Asda for the same price but I may get to asda and the offer may have finished and then I will spend £10 whilst in Asda on stuff I didn't want !! Sometimes I will spend a little extra to avoid spending more in the supermarket.

SunWukong · 21/09/2012 10:27

Save even more money by practicing self control and not buy things that are not on the list
