I just loved this!! Missed the beginning, picked it up when the chauffeur was knocking on the doppelganger's hotel room door, so got the gist.

Very Brideshead! And Cordelia with the pointy glasses, walking and looking exactly the same (after all this time!)

So, what's the Scapegoat thing then? Who's the scapegoat? confused about that, can't get my head around it

I loved it too. Now that you mention it, I don't get the scapegoat reference either though Grin

Have you seen Brideshead B0F? if not

YOU MUST

(the proper one, the takes-all-weekend-to-watch one)

I haven't- I remember it being on years and years ago. I might look that up, thanks.

I took it that the teacher was the scapegoat, as he was tricked into picking up the pieces after the mess that the rich guy had made, with his family, house and business. Also enjoyed it. Also thought that there was an inference that the current Queen was also a scapegoat ,as her father had to pick up pieces after his brother's mess?!! Maybe I am looking too deeply into this!!

It was fab! I read it years ago and am just about to re read it. I have never understood why more of DDM's books aren't made into dramas, she is a cracking writer.

I've just bought it for my kindle- looking forward to it!

was interesting but just hard to suspend the belief that two unconnected people can look so alike and sound the same and fool the people closest to them.

springydaffs · 10/09/2012 19:54

oh gosh, you have a huge treat in store B0F Smile

I read today that the director of the Scapegoat directed Brideshead too. Hence why Cordelia was in the Scapegoat; and that seductive upper class opulance!

Read a poor review of it in the Times today. Also saw that guy (don't know his name) in the Dylan Thomas prog the other day. Also very good - though DT was quite a shit and, stupidly, that does influence how I view an actor. (i know, ridiculous).

I absolutely loved this, and adore the lovely Matthew Rhys. Was thinking/dreaming about it all night.

springydaffs · 10/09/2012 20:43

ah that's who it is - Matthew Rhys!

interesting how they both had the same teeth veneers

Wonderfully acted, gripping from start to finish. I kept thinking there would be a twist near the end where you wouldn't know which one it really was till the last few seconds! So glad that didn't happen, just loved that happy ending...brilliant!

I love Matthew Rhys too. Try to watch The Abduction Club. Very silly but fun 18th century adventure romance.

springydaffs · 11/09/2012 11:09

Interesting, then, to see the scapegoat in a redemptive role...

I caught up with the beginning, which I missed, and Matthew Rhys is certainly a good actor - I was struck with how completely he caught the shit Johnny and the mild, kind John.
