watching it. cant beleive how much soft drinks some people drink

KalSkirata · 14/06/2012 21:28

funny how the 'food industry' claim that endless snacking is 'nutritious food for busy lifestyles'

teaandthorazine · 14/06/2012 21:29

I know, kal - how can they say this stuff with straight faces?

OP posts:
ohforfoxsake · 14/06/2012 21:30

interesting about the corn syrup in everything

ohforfoxsake · 14/06/2012 21:31

uh-oh Macdonalds....

KalSkirata · 14/06/2012 21:33

I read 'fat-land' about the corn syrup. Its empty crap devoid of nutrition. Is it in UK food too? When I was in the US everything from bread to fries to baked beans was unbeleivably sweet and sickly. Thats when I started to making my own bread cos US bread was so sweet.

KalSkirata · 14/06/2012 21:36

Yudkin's book is fantatsic but out of print for years

teaandthorazine · 14/06/2012 21:36

Hopefully they'll talk about how crap Keys' research was...

Kal, don't think HFCS is in quite as much here. US bread is awful, isn't it?

BadRoly · 14/06/2012 21:37

I'm now feeling very very guilty as I munch on a bag of crisps Blush

KalSkirata · 14/06/2012 21:45

bag of maltesers here Blush
Ive put it down.

teaandthorazine · 14/06/2012 21:50

Mmmmm, lovely fat Wink

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 14/06/2012 21:51

Sounds really interesting, is it repeated at all?

teaandthorazine · 14/06/2012 21:54

It's a three-parter, Softkitty - should be on iPlayer too.

ObviouslyOblivious · 14/06/2012 21:54

Great programme. Did you spot the Owen Wilson look/sound alike approx 10 mins ago?

ouryve · 14/06/2012 21:54

We don't have so much HFCS here, since we don't grow so much corn. We tend to see the label glucose-fructose syrup here.

It's a 3 parter, so I wonder if they'll discuss artificial sweeteners.

ouryve · 14/06/2012 21:56

Softkitty - i expect it'll be on iPlayer.

KalSkirata · 14/06/2012 21:56

i'm trying to eat fibrous carbs, no sugar and no processed foods. I make my own bread (4 ingrediants compared to 18 in supermarket bread).
But its hard Sad

toomuchapplepie · 14/06/2012 22:00

That bit about threatening the WHO and them subsequently dropping the recommendation Shock

stillfeel18inside · 15/06/2012 13:41

Makes perfect sense to me that it's highly processed foods rather than fat that make you put on weight - look at the french who eat plenty of cheese, butter, cream etc but probably not so much processed stuff and mostly manage to stay slimmish (ok no data whatsoever but based on the french vs US supermarkets).

teaandthorazine · 21/06/2012 21:04

Looking at dietary advice this week...

Hownoobrooncoo · 21/06/2012 21:36

Just started watching, don't know if I can continue. I'm serious, it's scary and making me feel really angry.

nethunsreject · 21/06/2012 21:54

Same here, Hownoo. Sad Angry

It is making me want to cry/hit things.

greenandcabbagelooking · 22/06/2012 08:13

I relly don't think we should blame our obsiety epidemic entierly on companies. No-one is forcing anyone to eat rubbish all the time (and I do sometimes have a McDonlds). And no-one is forcing you to have bigger portions either.

Getyergumsaroundmyplums · 22/06/2012 09:54

Can I get this on catch-up?

Hownoobrooncoo · 22/06/2012 09:57

I'm surprised there are not more obese people TBH, given modern living and the excess of the wrong kind of food being pushed. In the past people were kept in check not because they had more will power etc but the mindset was different and there was just less food and more excerise. Now it does take thought and discipline to not really overeat.
